Your correspondent could only manage the second half but still dutifully paid his £2 to the 'man with the bag'.

 

Saints were already 2-0 up though, I was informed. Messrs Cogger and J Smith had opened the scoring but soon after tthe restart Barking pegged one back with a stupendous shot from miles out that Ricky Perks could only stand and wonder at. Saints Res are made of stern stuff however, and soon replied when a delightfully flighted free-kick from Scott Atkinson was met by Amadue RIley, who, after making an iintiial hash of scoring from one yard, eventually crashed it into the roof of the net on the second attempt.

 

Barking were not to be put off by this and despite Saints almost scoring another three, repeated their earlier goal-scoring feat with another long-range effort. This only incensed the Saints even more and from another free-kick on the left, Jason Coughlan rammed a header past the bewildered Barking keeper to make it 4-2.

 

It was only left then for a comical miss by David 'bullet' Parkinson (he of the silver boots) to round off the evening nicely.

Another workman like performance sprinkled with flashes of superb football. Not easy on a blustery night and a bouncy pitch. But a win is a win in any language and with only four games left in the league two wins will ensure runners up spot behind Canvey. A great achievement for such a young team and done in some style I might add.

 

If possible lets see you all again Saturday and for our 2 remaining home fixtures which are - Tuesday 13th v Tilbury and Saturday 24th v Bowers United

 

I know there are other distractions this weekend but we can have the TV on in the bar as the big game is not on sky, then watch the reserves only interrupted for those who have had a flutter on the Grand National, all rounded off with a drink or two in the bar from your winnings <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
