Enfield Town 1 Barkingside 0 ESL

Recommended Posts

If you missed it you missed an enjoyable competitive game between two fairly even teams. But Town got the three point we wanted.

Matty Negus returned from University in style with a goal early into the second half. A lovely run and cracking shot.

The first half was an even affair with not much between the teams perhaps even Barkingside having the better of the chances.

Second-half tactics changed and town came out to get the goal with some positive play. In fact the town were more in charge in the second half.

Didn’t notice the ref or the linos particularly so they must have had a good game.

Some lovely runs from Cary Wright. Billy Cove picked up an injury and hobbled off.

Funny that Cleggy - it was described to me as the "worst game in the history of Association Football"

An unfair tag. I thought it was a competitive game. Plenty of effort from both teams. Chances at both ends. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I agree, the first half was porr. We created very little and the supply to Smithy was non-existant. Having said that, Barkingside came for a draw and packed out their defence. Second half was an improvement and we created a few better chances. Matt's goal was excellent-hope he can play all next season. All in all, an average game of footie but 3 points in the bag.

I think the referee's decision making was not too bad, on balance. The thing that really got the fans was the injury time played at the end of the second half. Perhaps its paranoia, but you can't help feeling that he wanted to play until an equaliser arrived.

And then demonstrating that he's on first name terms with just about every one of their players in the bar afterwards; it doesn't help!

The first half was dreadful.

Nobody want to comment on Billy Cove's performance or how the game changed after the substitution.

Danny Clarke may not have scored but he is showing more maturity and good judgement together with is known skill in every game.

Why did the "red mist" come over Bradley early on. I thought that had left him this season.

First half was not a classic but not that bad.

As I have perhaps criticised Clarkey recently for not scoring I want to say publicly that I thought he had an excellent game last night. Very mature as well, even a wry smile at the lino following a close offside flag.

Yes W.Cove Esq. is having a tough time. He had two very good chances, one from a fantastic diagonal ball from Clarkey, and one following a hopeful lob forward that a defender misjudged leaving Billy one on one with the keeper.

Lee Smith is wasted at wing back. He should play up front or just behind the strikers. His crossing was a bit iffy last night.

Johnny Rids - what a joy to watch this man play. Foot on the ball, little look up and a studied thoughful pass of chip forward.

Matty - great to see him back. Effortless control in tight spots on the line, good crosses, superb goal.

Adam Gant - top defender, faultless timing.

Chopper - needs no words from me, he's just Chopper.

Brad was fine at the back, I recall one saving tackle near te end, but I do like to see him in midfield.

Stuart - more like his old form coming back. He can throw the ball further than I can kick it.

Good solid game as usual from Kevin. What is his best position I wonder?

Carey - excellent peformance as someone said above. Losts it a bit towards the end I though, maybe tired, and could have released the ball a bit quicker on a number of occasions.

And I had the winning golden goal ticket - 57 minutes - but I lost it!

Why are you having a carp at Billy Cove. Do you think it does him good to read stuff like that on here?

Encouragement, or constructive critism might be better. In 28 games he has scored 15 goals and has 9 assists. One of those games was in goal...

Not a bad record is it?

The other people I speak to seem to have a lot of time for Billy. If he is going through a rough spell get behind him.

THere is a whole thread of people giving him a bit of encouragement.

I have not criticised Billy all I said was

"Nobody want to comment on Billy Cove's performance or how the game changed after the substitution."

As for hamburger

"I dont think you like Billy do you,you seem to have a go at him after every game."

You must read some peculiar posts of mine. The only player I have criticised on this forum is Ian Cooper and he has gone - no loss - as far as I am concerned just thinks he is better than he is.

Billy is a big boy he does not need me to criticise or praise him. He can demonstrate his prowress on the pitch it is the only place I will judge him.

There are people on this forum who have picked their best sides and constantly left out player\s who have given their all for this club. They have been too quick to praise Johnny come latelys. I dont want a hat trick every game. I dont want "In 28 games he has scored 15 goals and has 9 assists."

I want in every game this player has given his all 100% and played in a team where everyone counts - no stars - no prima donnas but everyone counts. If players cant do that they can go as there is no place for them in "The Town".
