Telford Utd 0 0 Canvey Island

Well everything to play for in the second leg after an excellent battling display against a rather dissapointing Telford side.

We probably could have won this, with Lee Boylan dragging a shot wide and forcing the Telford keeper into a save after a cracking shot from 20 yards in the first half.

In the second we probably edged it, with Gav Cowan heading just over and Boylan having a shot deflected wide. Midgley had a header saved whilst Danny Potter did well to get down to an effort as Telford looked for a goal in the last 15 minutes.

Despite Telford's pressure and possession they rarely troubled Danny Potter.

Wardy had a superb game winning every tackle and every header, whilst Chenners had a similar game. Gav Cowan showed great maturity at the back for someone of his age.

In midfield Ty Gooden and Jeff Minton struggled to get a grip on proceedings whilst although extremely lively at times Boylan and Junior Mcdougald struggled against Telford's uncompromising centre backs. I think Greggors needs to make return next week to add some much needed height to our attack.

Neil Midgley worked really hard, tracking back and winning tackles on numerous occassions.

So despite creating few chances, this was a solid battling display by Canvey in which every player gave 110% to the cause. The defence was immaculate and certainly the back three can give themselves a big pat on the back as they were all superb especially Wardy.

Still some hard work to be done but Telford were a bit dissapointing and never really put us under any real pressure.

A good day out helped by an extra two hours spent in the pub before the game.

Great atmosphere created by both sets of supporters, let's see more of the same Saturday!

I thought that Canvey dominated the game throughout and were rarely troubled by Telford. Surprised to see Lee Mills playing in Defence for Telford???. I would disagree about Minton, I thought he was the best player on the pitch. Should be a exciting 2nd leg next Saturday but the Gulls till have it all to do in my opinion as we don't have an away goal. If Telford score we have a problem.

I don't think away goals count in this competition. if the score is 1-1 after 90 minutes we have extra time and if it's still level after 120 minutes it's penalties.

I thought although Minton struggled to break the shackles of his marker he got better as the game wore on and certainly was doing superbly to keep the ball in tight situations.

I thought our distribution from the back was not great especially in the last 20 minutes and put us under a lot of pressure.

I assume the Telford defender who got sent off will be suspended for the second leg?
