What a great start. In the first minute a Keith Rowland cross into the area was brought down by Vinnie John and laid back to John Martin who drove the ball home to give us a lead. Northwood keeper Lee Carroll turned a Martin shot round the post 6 minutes later after an Andy Douglas shot was blocked but we went further ahead in the 10th minute somewhat controversially. A John Martin cross was headed goalwards by Andy Douglas and seemed to go in off the head of Northwood's Gary Meakin but the assistant referee raised his flag for offside as Vinnie John was standing on the line. The referee consulted with his assistant and eventually gave the goal. Carroll was kept busy saving from a Scott Gooding free kick on the half hour and a few minutes later from Andy Douglas, and could only watch just before half time when a Douglas shot from 18 yards dipped over the bar.

 

Douglas was replaced by Gary Abbott at half time due to injury and early on a Vinnie John header was cleared off the line by Chris Elsegood. Shortly after Carroll was called into action again this time saving from a far post header from Abbott. Northwood, though, pulled a goal back from out of the blue on 54 minutes. A Ben Yiadom long range effort evaded the reach of Danny Gay, hit the crossbar and went in off the back of Gay. When Gay had to save well at the foot of the post on the hour from a Dean Clark volley from 18 yards thoughts turned to the visitors, who looked so far out of it in the first half, getting something out of the game. Northwood, though, were never able to apply enough pressure and we put the game beyond all doubt when Vinnie John twisted to put the ball away after John Martin pulled the ball back from the byeline.

 

Line-up:- Gay, Gooding, Rowland, Adedeji, Southon, Locke (R Martin 81), Graham, McGowan (Williams 77), John, Douglas (Abbott 45). Subs not used:- Kerrigan, McCartney (GK)

yeah well they would have been wouldn't they....

 

they played four under 16's....the matchday programme editor and a fckin barman.....

Thought we where very good in the first half, back to our best infact went of the boil in the second half but the game lets face it was already won !

 

My Man of the Match was Vinnie John won everything and again didn't stop running but thought Jamie Southon had another top performance.

 

Well done to George and the lads ! roll on Tuesday !

The wing backs 3-5-2 worked extremely well in the first half, and it was probably the best performance I have seen for a while. Jamie Southon worked particulary hard along with Vinnie and Lockies experience always showed.

The second half was a different story and I felt that we took our foot off the pedal and let Northwood back into the game. Have to say though it was a lucky consolation goal.
