Penalty - what penalty?

Recommended Posts

You read it here first.

ETFC V Bowers - 17 April 2004.

If you want to be a part of the ETFC penalty competition, then see Les Gold and pay him your £5.00. Money always goes to a good cause.

The competition is restricted to 20 people and starts at 2.00pm.

3 attempts each and the top 5 go through to the final at half time.

3 more attempts to find the eventual winner.

Come on. It's got to be worth the entrance fee alone to see 20 'this side of the barrier' stars try to score from 12 metres!

hang on call me picky (don't) but......

"3 attempts each and the top 5 go through " do you go to the same skool as Junior? If you have 3 attempts how do you get 5!!

and why 12 metres?

any Junior and I will be there, kicking balls Johnny Wilkinson style

ps Is there a prize?

Hello Mr Picky!

I am going to score all three of my penalties and so are four other ETFC supporters. You will only score ONE. Therefore, we go through and you don't. Ha, Ha!

We will compete at half time whilst you can stand and watch the 'professionals'!

I believe the event is being sponsored by Haringey Sports Development Trust - the one and only Burk Gravis.

Contact Les now to book your place. Find him on matchdays. If you do not know who he is, then please ask.

hey I said don't call me picky ! you can walk home on Saturday!

If I manage to get all three shots out of the ground can I have a special needs prize!

anyway you can't see the pitch from the bar so I won't be able to watch at half time!!

who else is going in for this? or will Junior win it by default?

Here we go. Straight from the FA web site.

'Within each penalty area a penalty mark is made 11 m (12 yds) from the midpoint between the goalposts and equidistant to them'

The further away from the goal the spot would be would mean we get through the competition that much quicker!

Here is the 'keeper

Colin, Germany said:
In German (Germany), a penaly is usually called an Elfmeter (literally eleven metres). So calling it a twelve-metre competition might even be catchy enough to be the start of something big.

In Austria and Switzerland, they usually say Penalty (with the stress on the second syllable).

I thought they used an elfmeter on gnomes?

Andy an exref wrong?

When I was officiating it was 12 yards on a good pitch or 12 metres on a pitch with no regular groundsman. Remember, the referee's guess, when it came down to me, was final!

I will have no problems with the position of the penalty spot when the competition comes round. It's how far they put the goal away from it will be the problem!
