TELFORD UNITED

The receivership situation announced by MIck Jones this morning came after he received a phone call from a club director last night, as at this morning he has been unable to contact Chairman Andy Shaw. The gates at the NBH are currently locked with staff inside trying to come to terms with the bombshell. Unless other news comes out Andy Shaw would be the major share holder and it's obvious that the pitch problems have had a terrible effect on the club,s finances.

Andy Shaw of course is on the Conference management board.

Well I want Canvey to proceed into the final at Villa Park as much as anyone-- but on footballing merit- not because of the bad news that could affect Telford's team performance (or otherwise)--its a very sad day when sides like Telford with a newish stadium and in the semi's of the FA Trophy seem to find themselves in trouble financially.

Need someone to explain what the hell this is, those people in Telford seem to use some kind of posh/foreign language. Guess in a simple explaination: They're in financial trouble.

Hmm... Where the hell's Merv? Could see him having a comment on this one...

Taken from the Telford website

On the ropes - but we're still fighting.

25/03/04

Directors Paul Booth and Robin Eaves addressed a packed meeting in Joshuas bar tonight to explain the full extend of the club's problems to supporters. Over 200 fans filled the bar to capacity as supporters turned out in the club's hour of need - but the news could not be bleaker from the top.

The conference have insisted that the existing board of directors personally guarantee the club's final seven games of the season - it is estimated that this will be at a cost of £64,000. If the club cannot offer this guarantee, it is likely that Telford United FC will be in liquidation this time next week.

Whilst Booth, Cave and Eaves must make an unenviable decision as to whether the club continues or folds mid-season by 3pm tomorrow, supporters are being asked to volunteer their time, effort and services in order that the club can stage the FA Trophy semi final on Saturday, and volunteers are needed to steward the ground, sell programmes, operate turnstiles etc.

Anyone wanting to help should call the club on 01952 64******

Just read that too. Things look bleak. Where do we stand if they refuse to guarantee the 7 games??? Surely CIFC will be out of pocket too and what about the Trophey??? What would happen there??? It seems they need to get rid of some more players (other threads on the site).

Lets hope they get some big financial backing to help them out. Although I'm sure all Canvey fans want to win the semis surely this isn't a good way to do it.

This seems the easy route to the final, if it does go to them "liquidising." A lot of pressure off us, and two less games for us to play.

I reckon they'll be fine, every club has it's occasional downs. Imagine if we had the same problem, how many Ryman Premier fans would be glad to see us go?

They'll do it, good to see they've got some pressure, now we'll stand a chance

This story is kind of unfair on your boys, if you think about it. If you win, you were expected too, because : How can Telford be expected to win this with all that is going on.

But if you lose, the same. What a great achievement for a team in their position.

In the space of a couple of days, (don't you think) you have gone from Underdogs, as you probably would of preferred to fav's.

What do you reckon?

Could it just be kidoligy? (Probably spelt wrong) Try to lull you in to thinking our minds are not on this.

Anyway just my thoughts, no offence Telford boys, just an observation.

Well I dont want to win by default I think its terrible that Telford are in that position. I feel sorry for their fans it must be a horrible feeling that the club you love could disappear.

There is something seriously wrong that these rich businessman treat football clubs like playthings and when they are bored they pull all their money and the club is screwed. its happening at Rushden as well.

We are so lucky to have Jeff King. Canvey isnt a plaything to him he loves the club and I am sure would never pull his money out of the club.

He actually didn't walk out. He's gone bust. He has nothing apart from a family and a suit. Don't know if that's just an expression but still, not good.

Good luck tomorrow guys, it WILL go ahead.

See you there in your numbers, bring everyone you know.

As the man says, tomorrow's game is definitely on, as is the second leg and Telford's league game against Chester in between. However, the FA say Telford will have to "reconfirm their position with the Conference" before the Chester game. So it sounds like enough money has been guaranteed to cover those three games, but there would appear to be still some way to go. The players have agreed to a 50% wage deferral until the end of the season. Let's hope they can get something sorted - and let's hope tomorrow is about football not finance. It will be two tough games, Telford will be even keener to get to the Final now (and preferably win it) because of the cash it will bring in. I think if we stay focussed over the two games we have a chance, but we certainly start as underdogs.
