Favourite STFC memories

Got to say for me it was the 1967 Skemelsdale home and away game in the Amatuer Cup.9000 people at home and 7000 away-Slough Supporters took over 20 coaches( no! thats not a record for Slough)plus cars and some went by train.I remember that they were coached by Liverpool's Ian St.John, but the most amazing thing was that 9 of their team turned professional the following year, the most famous being Micky Burns who went on to play for Newcastle United. Yes, and we should have beat them!!

Some great memories, I wish I was old enough to of seen the Reardon era. I started watching around the time of Neal Stanley, Steve Thompson and Tommy Langley, the days when Wexham Park was not enclosed and had grass emnbankments at each end. You would also often see more kids playing football on the training pitch than there was people watching the game.

I am surprised though that nobody has mentioned my favourite game of all time. My signature should give you a clue. Although the result went the wrong way this game is arguably from one of our most sucessful seasons, and easily the most memorable atmosphere I've been part of.

Wycombe Wanderers away 1993. Squeezed in to the corner of the terrace with only a fence dividing us and the home fans the atmosphere was explosive but not violent. Luckily I got there early because I remember near to kickoff the gates got locked due to overcrowding with a couple of hundred fans still outside, who promptly attempted to climb a rather steep muddy slope to stand on the hill behind.

I also remember some bloke starting the chant 'give me an S' and then going on to mis spell Slough by missing out 'give me a G'.

The chanting was frequent and loud throughout the game and several incidents on the pitch caused the crowd to surge forward, particularly when the Wycombe captain got sent off right in front of us. Being involuntarily moved 5 steps forward and back is both scary and exciting.

A night I will never forget.

Can't match the above in terms of excitement as I only started going in 1996/7 but here are a few of my favourites:

One of my earliest was Slough 3-0 Hereford and chanting 'easy' (they had freshly been relegated from Division 3)

FA Cup games vs Macclesfield (1st R), Canvey Island (4th QR), and Harrogate R (1st R).

League vs Chesham (h) with Bruce Grobelaar in goal and all the monopoly money <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> and Fiore's lobbed goal from 35 yards after Bruce had tried to dribble his way through. As I recall weren't we down to 9 men as well, versus 10? I rememember singing 'we only need nine men' at some point.

I wish I'd been to some of the Wycombe games in the early 1990's, and more Conference games in general - may not get another chance for a long time !

Back to the trophy run in 98, a memory sticks in the mind from the first of the replays we had. When Welling went 1-0 up at Wexham Park the crowd started singing 2-1, we're gonna win 2-1. And win 2-1 we did, so at the final whistle Welling supporters left Wexham Park to the tune of 2-1, we said we'd win 2-1.

Similar things have been sung at other matches but this one in particular stays in my mind.

either that or having the cardiff supporters sitting directly underneath our part of the stand at ninian park moved due to anti-welsh sentiments expressed by our supporters, and also the sound from the game being cut during the BBC Wales radio broadcast at half time for the amount of songs being sung about sheep

Wish I'd been there, and another I forgot was the first leg of the Southport semi-final, crammed in behind the goal and leaving disappointed at the result. I also regret not making the journey up to Southport to see the second leg. I still remember seeing the highlights on Sky Sports and again during their build-up to the final - wasn't it Corey Browne who scored for us? And THAT offside goal. I still remember the name, I believe it was Kevin Formby. Absoluely gutting. We could have gone on to win it that year.

THAT Southport game. Aargh. I remember being told that when Hardyman was shown a replay of the goal he was too choked to comment. Super Mac was sent to the stand for protesting too much. The coach journey back was one of the most depressing ever.

As a supporter of 37 yrs nobody has mentioned the hiring of a train to play runcorn in amatuer cup support taken ran into thousands only to be greeted at runcorn station by as many police lining the route to the ground they were tipped of about chelsea supporters going and were expecting trouble what a depressing and run down area meat pies were awful and the result was no better but what an away day.

Pleasure in watching my name sake john delaney play for the rebels there's many more supurb players to many to mention over this period.

Also beating boston away to stay in the conference what a player steve thompson was in this game and in my opinion the last player of true class and quality that has played for the rebels

yes i was there that night they shut the gates at wycombe-and with so much at stake it had plenty of atmosphere.but equally as good back in 1970 at wycombe's old ground 10,000 saw slough get a draw in the f.a.cup, where reardon had to play out of position as a lone centre forward-and wycombe's defence just got giddy through trying to suss out his next move.in the replay we beat them 1-0 before a crowd of near 9000 at the dolphin stadium.sadly those days are long gone.

As another old hand try these

1) Amateur cup QF at home v Blyth Spartans (trouble off the pitch but sublime game on it) won 2-1

2) Trophy SF v Morecombe

3) Coming back from 3-1 down to beat Wycombe in the league

4) The 3-3 draw against Wycombe first time we played them in the Conference

5) Just getting to the Conference after all those years (and having won the league before automatic promotion.)

6) Going 2-0 up at Brisbane Road against Orient in the cup

7) Beating Aylesbury (at Tring I think) in the snow in the cup

8) Chalkie's free kick barrage on the Millwall goal

9) The first 85 minutes at Wembley in 73 (just being there!)

10) Beating Walton 1-0 the next year in the Floodlit Midweek Cup (terrible game but revenge was slightly sweet.)
