I hate it when you can hear a tune on the radio and you have to wait months before you can buy it!!!!

I have to wait until April 12th before i can get my hands on "Don't Want You Back" by Eamon. Such a gorgeous track, and i can't have it yet!!!!

Claire, you are right.

Twenty years ago this wasn't the case. Indeed most radio stations wouldn't play records until they'd made the charts.

That is why records, twenty years ago, would often take over a month from their initial chart entry (usually very low) to reach their peak position, and you could watch over the weeks as your favourite records climbed the charts.

Nowadays, records go in at their peak position, and then drop the following week.

The charts are no fun anymore.

I know!!!!!!!!

I mean, i heard Milkshake on the radio 3 months before it was released!!!!!!

My only complaint about the Eamon track is that it is so good, i want it, but i'm going to have to wait ages for it!!!! I'm going to have to keep listening to Kiss to keep hearing it!!!!!

Oh, thinking about that, i wonder if Twister is out yet!!! Another gorgeous track!!!!!!

There are a load of good tracks out at the moment!!!!!!!!

Yey!!!!!!!

When I say you are right, I wasn't referring to your appraisal of the Eamonn (Holmes?) track which, I have no doubt, will be absolutely dire.

LOL!!!!!!!!! I know you wern't referring to that!!!!!!

No, it's not Eamon Holmes!!!!!! Just Eamon!!!!! Gorgeous!!!!! The track is fantastic, yet i don't think that you'd like it as it comes under RnB. However, i think you should give it a go, see what you think after listening to it!!!!!!

R'n'B??

Don't give me that crap.

I hate the way all that modern, urban rubbish (Usher, Alicia Keys, Wayne Wonder etc) gets labelled as R'n'B.

Authentic R'n'B is Rhythm and Blues, which started out in the 1940s and paved the way for Rock'n'Roll in the 1950s.

Same as all this garbage gets called 'Soul' now.

Soul? That's not fking soul.

Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye - now that's soul.

Now, hun, calm down, i'm only saying that it's RnB, it wasn't me who put the f-ing labells on the types of music out there.

I'm just stating that it was RnB, if you don't like the way it's labbeled, tell the fecking musci companies!!!!!!!!

Good rant about r'n'b and soul mate, hate all this modern crap under a classic music genre unbrella. Call it something new like Rag'n'Bollox or Souless!

Agreed again, I used to be a bit of a sad chart buff a few years ago and watching records climb etc was part of the fun but nowadays I just check them once a week to see if what I purchased made the chart because I know it won't be in there next week.

For example I brought Pure by the Lightning Seeds in 1988 and it entered the chart at number 100, next week it was 91 and gradually over the next 16 weeks it rose to number 16 where is stayed for two weeks before gently slipping out the charts, the whole process taking about 4 months

Soul - now you're talking

Interestingly there's a few new albums coming out which are very much in an old fashioned soul vibe - bought the Joss Stone album the other day. Not totally convinced by her voice, but I'm very much loving her backing band with some excellent organ and horns. Similar sound to some of the stuff Etta James was doing on Chess many moons ago. Also good to see some of the remaining "old guard" soulies putting out some good stuff in recent years - Solomon Burke, Sam Moore (of Sam & Dave fame...) and Al Green have all released good albums recently. Unfortunately they get 0 radio play, and sell correspondingly few albums
