Trust News?

Burnham Lad

Recommended Posts

I went onto the official website and looked at the Trust section and there is nothing new on there since the announcement of the meeting in January - not even a report of that meeting.

There have been postings on here about the Charity Walk - it might be a good idea to have a section on the Trust Page about it, listing people who are going to walk, so that other people who cannot go on the walk can see who they are and maybe contact somebody they are happy to sponsor.

A bit of news about what is happening with the Trust might also encourage some more joiners and let people know where things are at this moment in time - have the Directors been appointed yet, for example, and what is happening about the Questionnaire going out soon from the Council which Chris mentioned in his recent post? Has the Council told the Trust if the Feasibility Study Contracts have been signed and when will it start, if it hasn't already?

Has any response to the Britwell Independents Survey been made to the Press?

I know that the Committee are all very busy, but it may not encourage people to participate if it looks as if nothing is happening, even if it is all going on behind the scenes.

It would really help with publicity as well as keeping members informed if all this information was in one place we can rely on - after all the Club itself isn't going to tell us anything! It would also make sure that the press have a resource to get Trust views. What they can see at the moment might kid them that it is a non-starter!

Great news, Gary, that is just what is needed, but also proves my point - just a little note in the Trust News list to say "Keep Watching this site for news of launch of new Trust Website" would say that "It is all happening Folks" - keeps people interested and looking!

On the subject of Trust elections, these are to happen shortly. However, we have to get someone to act as our returning officer which, if you use an independent body, costs several hundreds of pounds. Supporters Direct advocate 'twinning' with another Trust so they act as our returning officer and vice versa which is a way that both can reduce their costs. Unfortunately, Jacqui Forster from SD has been extremely ill for several weeks so I've not been able to talk to her about this. She is now back though and I'm due to speak with her on Wednesday this week.

To address two points Andrew has raised, a summary of the evening was printed in the programme shortly after the meeting. A copy of the presentation will also be available on the new Official Trust website which Gary and Chris are working hard to create. As for donating to the walk, this was also printed in one of the recent programmes and on the forum. Despite this, not one person has left details at the Supporters Hut or sent a mail to trust@sloughtownfc.net donating any money to those participating. I assume, Andrew, you will now be doing so?!

Alternatively, why not participate yourself? So far it's almost exactly the same people that have taken part in previous years. It's very easy for people to attend a launch evening with free food etc but where are they when it's time to put themselves out and take part in something like this?

The comments weren't aimed at Andrew in particular or the two or three people who have volunteered over and above the crowd from last year. They're aimed in a more general way at anyone who finds time to comment on here but no time to do anything more.

Sorry if that sounds harsh but without people putting themselves out and the money that raises, the Trust can achieve nothing.

New rules landed on my door mat, from Supporters Direct ...when I had got back from the match yesterday...need to check them and advice new rules concerning elections...

But elections will take place...

so far only a few members putting themselves forward and maybe the board has elected themselves ?? !!

As Ian has stated we need do'ers and people committed...so let me know ASAP so your name can be added to the voting list !

I am not trying to pick a fight but if the Trust Site isn't up and running fully yet (and I am not having a dig at that) how are you supposed to find anything out? I buy a programme every home game but always post it to my cousin on the way home. I therefore don't have time to read it. We regularly sell out of programmes so surely some people miss out on that information altogether. In all honesty when you look at the forum only relatively few regulars post although I am sure other do read it. So perhaps that is not the most effective way of getting information across.

I remember a while ago a trust newsletter was handed out on the gate. Perhaps a follow up is due once we have some further news.

In respect of elections,I understand (because somebody told me) that there was an article about how to put yourself forward for election to the trust committee in the programme. I don't have that programme and I have not memorised Chris' home address. So how do I put myself forward?

I am inclined to agree with Martin. As far as a website is concerned 'No news is...'

'...no news' !

To show that the Trust is alive and kicking, and did not die completely at the launch party, it would be good if the Trust home page on the Official Site was updated.

A couple of paragraphs - eg to indicate that the launch was a huge success, and that an independent Trust website was currently being constructed - would probably be enough, short-term.

Further enquiries could be answered via the provided Trust email address.

I appreciate the forthcoming comments from the above, but the trust email has been well publicised by Ian for enquiries and news stories have been posted on here - It seems a lot of people tend to check the forum more than the Official Site? - but hardly anyone has made enquiries through Ian?

Anyhow, hope to have the trust site up and running this evening if all goes to plan with domain names to follow shortly.

As Gary has intimated, there has been almost no response to the dedicated mail address. In fact, I can confirm that trust@sloughtownfc.net has received a total of nine e-mails since being created many weeks ago.

If I had responded to and acted upon each of those mails I would have zero sponsorship money, no nominations for becoming a Trust officer, a $50,000 loan, enough viagra to open my own sex shop and a large enough [***!!***] to become a porn star!

As a general question, what do people feel is the best way of communicating Trust news outside of the website once it's up and running?

I would have thought a newsletter given out to everybody at home games during the season, and mailed out during the summer to trust members. Not everybody has access to the web and as has been mentioned on here, not everybody buys programmes or they run out.

As I have said above and the big man has added a newsletter at home games is the way to go for trust news.

We were not panicking Chris just letting you know how those not on the steering committee are seeing things.

Good work on the trust site.

And, Ian e-mail number 10 (and the second from me) will be on the way shortly.

As I mentioned before, we'll be able to give more information once we've established the correct process for elections. I'm speaking with Supporters Direct on Wednesday so expect news shortly after.

In the meantime, and as Martin has done (thanks), if you wish to put yourself forward for election to the Trust board, send a note to trust@sloughtownfc.net and I'll let you know further details after Wednesday.

As a couple of people have mentioned newsletters as the preferred option, I'll try and ensure one is available at the Bracknell home game.
