Still True Ten Years On??

"I see no reason why Slough can’t go on and do what Wycombe Wanderers have done. My theory on that happening is that we need to be able to build a stadium equal to or better than Wycombe Wanderers, at the same time as success on the pitch to go cap in hand with the stadium.

This can only be done with you the supporters coming in your droves, not just to watch the football but to support the club as a whole, being involved in using the club facilities, i.e. the driving range, bars and supporting club functions and lotteries. Yes I know it’s a lot of money, but to have a stadium of football league status will cost a lot of money. If the people of Slough show that they are willing, the powers that be at the club will make it happen for them."

If the plans we were shown of the stadium are adopted then we probably only have one shot at developing a stadium. My preference would be to do what Yeovill did which is to develop the ground in stages. Anyone who went there in our conference days would have seen that the open terracing behind each goal had the fundations for stands and seating to be completed at a later stage as and when crowds and cash flow permitted.

But what brings supporters? Results. How are we going to progress to a higher level without a ground? As we have noted on occasion our attendances would stand up in the Ryman Premier and yes the "bigger" games would get more slough old boys and maybe some new fans out. But then we hit the wall. We will not get regular attendances of 1,000 plus unless we have conference football. We cannot get to conference level of football whilst ground sharing with windsor. It is a chicken and egg scenario in my view.
