Just feel Chenners hasn't been producing it lately. That isn't entirely his fault as recently he has been playing out of position.

Chenners, Wardy, Gav Cowan, Dave Theobald and Smithy are five quality defenders who can all do a job when called upon but if we play a 3-5-2 then two have to miss out.

Half-time: Canvey Island 1-0 Aylesbury United.

Lee Boylan (17') getting on the scoresheet in the first half for the Gulls.

Some other Half-time scores going our way:

Thurrock 0-1 Braintree

Heybridge 0-0 Grays

Bognor 1-1 Hendon

Carshalton are winning 2-0 though.

Full-time: Aylesbury United 0-2 Canvey Island

Boylan (17')

Minton (87')

Other notable Full-times:

Sutton 3-1 Hornchurch

Bognor 1-2 Hendon

Heybridge 3-0 Grays

Thurrock 0-1 Braintree

Hitchin 0-3 Carshalton

Leigh RMI 1-1 Telford

Off the top of my head we only need 9/10 points to take the Title now.

Something I've just noticed, with our superior goal difference we only really need 9 points to come level with Hornchurch if they win all their remaining games.

If that's the case then if they win their next games until Good Friday and we beat Kingstonian & Thurrock we can become level on points and potential points, (98) by beating Billericay and then Officially take the title by just a point at St. Albans - What a piss-up that might be there! (As long as we don't get beat up in the bar there of course! )

Of course we could take the title against Billericay if Hornchurch don't take maximum points from a game!

There must be many Aylesbury fans who are thankful for the hurricane-like winds that dominated today’s game. Be sure that without it, Canvey would have slaughtered the opposition. As it was, control was difficult for both teams, passes were always a matter of chance and any thought of a long ball was quickly dismissed. Instead, the game was a series of mistakes, mis-hits and poor control although nobody could be blamed. The dreadful conditions made any semblance of football just about impossible.

In the first half Canvey were kicking against the wind and the ball only came into the home penalty area on two occasions. On the first a good series of passes, all on the floor, eventually found Lee Boylan who hammered home to put the visitors into an early lead. On the second occasion Canvey ‘scored’ again only to find that the linesman, obviously confused by the off-side rule, deemed it to be illegal.

At the other end and with the wind working in their favour, Aylesbury came close to equalising on one occasion but they were thwarted by a brilliant Danny Potter save. It was the home side’s only real chance of the game and although they played some neat passing football from time to time, they were never really in it.

Come the second half and there were more Canvey chances than you could shake a stick at. Rashid, the home keeper, was unable to get the ball out of his own half either from goal kicks or drop kicks. This set Canvey up to launch attack after attack on his goal and it can only be down to bad luck, the bounce of the ball or the rub of the green that none of them went in. None, that is, until the dying minutes of the game when Lee Boylan set Jeff Minton up beautifully to hit home from close range. It was a great goal and just desserts for all the work and the domination that Canvey had shown all throughout the game.

Not a great footballing spectacle but this was down solely to the weather conditions. The pitch was in beautiful condition and there was a good atmosphere. More importantly, Canvey are back in business following their recent run of poor performances. With other results going in their favour, Canvey find the championship is getting closer and closer. Now the speculation is not whether they will do it, but at which game it will happen. Could it be the Basilricay home game?

But league thoughts must now go onto the back burner until we sort out our Conference cousins from Telford. Over two legs it will be difficult but if the long awaited return to form has now been found, Villa Park looks a real possibility.

Have to admit despite the awful weather conditions I enjoyed my trip to Aylesbury.

The Aylesbury fans seemed a decent bunch of supporters and the bar staff were certainly the most friendliest I've come across in the Ryman this season. Also great hot pies in the clubhouse! Lovely!

As for the game, we controlled it from start to finish. Very difficult to play any decent football in them conditions and once we went in at half time 1-0 up, you couldn't see Aylesbury scoring especially with the wind in our favour.

Special mention to J.K who won every tackle and worked like a trojan. Great build up for the second goal, certainly the best football of the game.

A job well done and the mini crisis seems to be averted. Another 3 wins and the title is ours!

What a Day! Thankfully conditions that bad are rare. I like Chenners comment to us on the side “Must be a good game to watch”!!

From the kick off, you wondered just how the game would go as the wind was the main factor. Early on, several times Danny tried to take a free kick just outside our area and the ball kept moving from the spot. You thought somewhere along the line that a goalkeeper was going to concede a goal just down to those conditions, even from their own goal kick at times.

Probably a day that when the final whistle came that both teams where glad to get changed.

Observations on the day. Hope that Greggors recovers in time and I wonder why Wardy went off? Because of the booking or he did not look happy at all in those conditions and perhaps the back was hurting due to the stretching at times.

Hard to assess performances today. In all, everyone tried and battled well at it was those footballing moments that saw us through. You would of thought however that Junior would leap at the chance at proving himself when he came on. He just did not seem to want to play as part of the team and wasn’t watching where the ball would go.

Now for the big build up next Saturday. It’s going to be tough, but what you’d expect at this stage.

With ourselves not in league action for another two weeks if Hornchurch, Thurrock and Hendon drop points then victory in our next league match away to Kingstonian could be sufficient enough to win the league!
