Re League Fix/Chairman

Recommended Posts

Have to be careful here - ie slander laws, but said Chairman of the ESL did not even watch when Romford won the title in 96. He sat in the car park for the whole 90 mins and (allegedly) begrudingly came out to give us the trophy. Perhaps our food was not as good as at Burroughs Park or PARK LANE????????

I absolutley agree with my Manor friends.....

Mr and Mrs Etherington are really lovely people who dedicate the majority of their time and effort ensuring we have a league to play in.

They are an absolute credit to the non league game and your comments about him are completely unfair.

LOL.....Please accept my apology......

Was hoping Matthews Mum and Dad could get me and Billy in for nothing.....!

Right....so If Mr and Mrs Errington are not connected to Matthew Etherington......I will change my opinion and will also give them some stick....!

Only joking....Rob and Margaret..think you are doing a great job....

I know it is the easiest thing in the world to ignore postings but I am totally bewildered by the

vindictive posting from this person. First of all, I am extremely grateful for all the kind words said in response to this posting especially as they tend to be from folk who have come on the scene in the last few years. Thank you.

Eight years is a long time to harbour an obvious grudge but if you are not sure of your facts ( the other poster comes in here who seems to be backing you up ) then you should have kept your thoughts to yourself. 1995-96 may have been a great season for you but it was the worst ever for me. In the March I nearly lost my beloved wife with an embolysm and she had just come out of hospital so, the game at Sungate was our first together. How opportune that we could join in the celebrations of the League Championship by presenting the trophy. Just one point, there was a problem in the clubhouse before the match. Now, one comment on this forum that no-one has ever had an explanation is quite wrong, I have good reason to believe that there are folk still at the club who know, though may not entirely remember, what happened, though I must emphasise that the person involved has nothing whatsoever to do with your club now.

So, you can imagine, Mrs Chairman was flabbergasted and wanted to go home but I cajoled her into staying and it was agreed by the Officers at the club that we would present the trophy at the end of the game. We went back to the Car Park and put the trophy back in the Car then went over to the stand on the far side and watched the whole game , it was a 0-0 draw with Stansted but my abiding memory was seeing the great Allan McKnight of Celtic fame in goal. So, again, you are totally out of order. I presented the trophy at the end and left - what more do you want ?

I am very concerned that you bothered to make this posting ( twice now ) and hope it finishes here and that anyone who comes on here again with similar statements gets it right in the first place.. you were the one to mention slander laws !

Now, a wee story to finish this on a high note, a year later when we went back to Chairman, Mr John Goodwin's house to collect the Pearson Cup, our Championship Trophy, it was sitting on a table with a light shining on it and had been completely cleaned and refurbished, I have never seen it looking so pristine- another abiding memory of our extremely happy but sometimes rocky years in the Essex Senior League. We welcomed your club back and have throughly enjoyed the high standard of football you play. No one will ever take that away from us - least of all ... You, whoever you are !!

Thanks for that Mr Chairman, obviously there was a "logical explanation"

My point was made not as a grievence but just confirming for others that in response to Mr Coup's posting, there were some unusual events on the day.

I would not be aware of what took place in the Clubhouse prior to the game, but would like on behalf of our club to apologise again for any distress caused to your good lady and yourself on that day.

We enjoyed our time in the ESL and are enjoying in again now.

Chairman - I was waiting for the reasonable explaination, thank you. I trust mrs chairman is now well and enjoying ESL with you?

But please do not be as silent re the fixture debacle, with ilford being afforded the privilage of playing their last game of the season knowing what may be required for winning the championship or promotion.

From your postings you seem a reasonable kind of bloke, go on sort it out and save the ESL being brought into disrepute.
