I don't have time to comment there right now (the board is full of closed minded people who get all uppity and abusive at the drop of a hat), but if anyone is interested, check it out.

Thanks Louise for putting this on the Forum - I presume this is the Britwell Independents Survey?

I was fascinated to see that only 2.7% voted for a stadium - but there again only 10.6% didn't want one, so I guess that proves a hell of a lot! You could argue that any survey where 86.7% don't care one way or the other gives the council a reasonably free hand.......

However, the silence about the Feasibility Study gets deeper......

I believe it was organised by the Britwell Independents but I don't have the precise details and even mentioning STFC on that forum is like opening a can of worms, so I'm not upsetting the applecart by asking

What the thread does say though, is that Britwell has approximately 3,700 households. I have no idea whether surveys were delivered to all of the households in Britwell (the thread seems to suggest that they were) but apparantly 563 replies were received which by my reckoning amounts to only 15.22% of the households in Britwell, so I do have to question its validity as a representative sample of the views of those who live in Britwell....

Like I say, I don't know whether all the residents were given the opportunity to participate in the survey, but if they were, that makes the number that apparantly have no opinion one way or the other about 3100 or to put it another way roughly 85% of the people of Britwell either want a football stadium there or don't care whether one is built.

That puts a different slant on it.....

Oh the fun of manipulating statistics

With surveys such as this the one thing you can usually rely on is if people have a strong feeling one way or another, they'll respond.

As Louise points out, if only a small percentage have replied to the questionnaire then you can reasonably assume that the rest won't be too upset if a new stadium is built.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but wasn't there a bit of aggro with this questionnaire, in that some of the questions were slanted against the proposal anyway, e.g posed questions in a negative manner? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

The questionnaire is a waste of time when the council will be sending out an official one soon.

I have seen the frontpage of the questionnaire and the first question is something like 'do you want a stadium for 6,000 to 10,000 people in britwell?'

Do what! How misleading is that!!!! For a start the CAPACITY would be 6,000 and that would be nowhere near full! Many teams have 6,000 capacity stadiums and get around 1,000 which is what we'd be expecting I believe!

The survey's a joke in my opinion - wait for the official one.

The survey in many ways is complete nonsense. One week Janik is in the local paper arguing against the development saying, like the questionnaire did, there should be a "proper park" with trees and bushes. The next week he's in the other paper moaning that the kids of Britwell need some real recreational facilities to keep them out of trouble which is what the development, including the stadium, will offer them.

According to the Express one objector says "it's a valuable natural asset (KP) that shouldn't be touched". That just goes to prove that Janik and his mates have not made it clear to people that the proposal is for the stadium to be built on wasteland currently owned by Slough Estates, not on Kennedy Park. Janik accuses everyone else of playing political games yet he's the worst.

70% of 563 respondents said they did not want a stadium. By my reckoning that's 394 people that don't want it and 3306 that are relaxed one way or another. If I was presented with those results from a survey that was clearly biased against the stadium, I know what decision I'd come to.

From the national assembly website

In 1997 the Welsh people narrowly endorsed government proposals to devolve certain powers and responsibilities to a National Assembly. Of those who voted, 50.3 per cent were in favour.

This is now the official line,ie "a small majority of the welsh people voted for a welsh national assembly" and now we have one. It is also completely untrue. The reality is that of 2,218,850 voters only 559,419 (25.21%)voted in favour 552,698 (24.91%) vote against and the rest couldnt care less. so 50.3% of THOSE VOTING voted yes but only 25.21% of the people.

Be warned politicians will use statistics to prove their case and we must all be prepared to challenge them.
