Proposed Bar Boycott

Those who read this message cannot have failed to heard about the events of 6 March in the St Albans City club bar by now.

The general feeling from SACFC fans on the terraces at Bishop's Stortford is that the club have chosen to sweep this entire issue under the carpet and pretend it never happened rather than deal with it in the appropriate manner.

Therefore several SACFC fans have taken matters into their own hands and written to the correct footballing authorities and have spoken with the local press and the Non Leauge Paper.

One idea we have had is to arrange a boycott of the club bar at the next home game on Saturday March 20th against Harrow Borough.

The club bar after all was where the assaults took place and also where the foul verbal abuse in front of young children was shouted out. It is quite possible of course that parents have already chosen to steer clear of the bar anyway.

Hopefully a boycott of the bar may hit the club where it hurts and make it take notice while at the same time I have been assured that those people who work in the bar will not be affected as their pay is non-performance related.

This is just an idea at the moment and if we go ahead with it a similar message will appear on the Harrow Borough message board requesting thier fans do the same.

Does anyone have any views about this?

Whilst I have no argument with what has been said about Brown (or Smith) & share the common view that both should be sacked I wonder if this constant attack directly or indirectly against the Chairman is wise. If he decides enough is enough and walks I can't believe there will be too many ready to step in. Is that what everyone wants?

I would have thought that the opposite would be appropriate. Get in there in numbers, have a good time and show others that you are not moved by their antics, quite the reverse. Why should you feel pushed out of a Club by those you were there long before and will be there long after they have gone? Loyal fans are the real keepers of their clubs, certainly not most players. Let them see it.

oooooooooooooh get you lot - what's going on ? For what it's worth here is the view of someone who has supported the Saint's since the early sixties.

1. If the players behaved in the way described then they should be sacked

2. Boycotting the bar will not make an iota of difference

3. Bluesnet's point was well made - why the sarcasm ?

4. Change IS required at the club. I am sure that Mr. Gibson is aware of this - time will tell whether or not he makes the right choices !

5. Comments from an ex chairman trying to stir things up should be ignored

Oh now I,ve a headache - bring back Sid Prosser.

Re Canary's points:

1. Perhaps someone should point this out to the chairman.

2. I don't think anyone would notice. It's dead in there anyway.

4. There's been plenty of change: look at the league table and our attendances. I expect things will change further next season in Div 1.

This was just an idea to test the water. Just a suggestion of a way to make our voices heard. I asked if you had views so we could decide whether it was a good idea or not.

Brew= it's common knowledge
Alban= yes i think more and more people do actually want this
Legionxiv= i thought you f***ed up all your brain cells in the acid house craze of the eighties.
Bluesnet= point taken tho most people spoken to are very wary about going in there now
Laz EFM= correct

I won't be in there before or after the game. This isn't so much a boycott as common sense.

I'm fed up with this season, not just because of the agro that has been taking place, but the hopeless position we find ourselves in.

Everyone is worried about losing John Gibson, whe what they are worried about is losing his weekly injection of cash. From what he tells me that is a significant sum. I really don't know what he is getting out of it.

Fifteen months ago we had a team challenging for the Conference with a manager that had an idea about how to achieve that, a large cash input from the FA cup and regular gates of about 700.

Now we have a Premier Division ground, First Division Crowds and a Second Division Team and it's not getting any better.

Call me naive, but I've always believed that it was when things weren't going as well as you'd hoped that the team needed your support even more, and when you should make the effort to get behind them. Heavens knows my years of following football before I moved to St Albans taught me that one.

Other incidents that have been "swept under the carpet"

Can throwing at Hendon
Fights at Billericay
Fights at Stockport (cost the club quite a bit of money I gather)
Ejection of fan(s) at Chester

any more I've missed?
