A Good Result ! A Game That Had Most Types Of Weather ! LOL

I Think We Played Quite Well Today Which We Really Had Too After Thursday's Performance.

Even Though Andy Douglas Scored ! I Still Don't Think He Should Of Took Bertie Brayley Off And If He Had To Take Him Off There Was Gavin McGowan And Danny Cowley On The Bench Who Are Both Quality Players ! But He Scored And That's What Counts Really, No Matter Who Put's The Ball In The Net Its A Goal !

Great To See Canvey Lose To Sutton 3-1 ! Let's Just Make Sure We Beat Them Next Saturday ! Still A Very Slim Chance Of Us Winning The League !

UP THE URCHINS !!

...And considering many of the lads were still suffering from tired legs after Tuesday and Thursday I thought they put in a very professional performance.

Just a shame Danny Gay didn't score...

...Any chance of putting it on the Video Clips page Rob?

Top performance by the lads in tough conditions some great passing and intelligant football.

My MAN of the match...Jamie Southon adds the steal we need in defence or midfield.

UB, I think that's totally unfair on Dougie, i don't want to critise Bertie but it wasn't one of his best performances, Dougie put his heart and soul into it and scored...i'm sorry he didn't get a hat trick.

But Maybe i have lost the point but if you bring a substitute on to score a goal and he does, doesn't that make it a good substitution ?!

Urchino, Maybe Yesterday I Was A Bit Hard On Dougie But We Were Talking About Him Before The Game And People Pointed Out A Few Good Point's :

If He Looses The Ball He Doesn't Fight To Get It Back

Most Of The Time As Soon As He Gets The Ball He Looses It Again !

At The End Of The Day He Scored And Helped Hornchurch Win So

I gotta say we must be watching a different Dougie ?!

When Dougie first joined everyone was on his back from the start (i think that was because of Taff being such a fan fav'e), whatever he did people critised...some i accepted others i didn't. I wish people would take Dougie game for game and give him credit where credits due. It sadly seems to me that your upset that Andy scored ?!

As for losing the ball and not trying to get it back i think that's the majority of strikers at the majority of clubs !

As a few of us have been saying all season...

Get Andy facing goal, knock the ball in front of him to run onto, [preferably in the centre of the park] and he'll score a great many more goals than he has. Yesterday's pass from Graham, and Andy's subsequent goal was an example of the type of move we should be exploiting. Of course, depending upon the quality and pace of the opposition defenders, it aint always going to work, and we should recognise that.

Too often Andy has been left isolated up front and we've relied upon him to hold the ball up with his back towards goal. He doesn't do too bad a job in that respect, but don't ask him to win headers. That's Vinny's strength...the knock on header.

Andy works hard for the team and gives it his all, even when our game plan doesn't suit his style of play.

We can't put HFC's lack of goalscoring power down to one man. And like you Urch, I was well happy he scored yesterday and wish he'd got 3. But, even if he'd got 5, I doubt that would satisfy some of his critics!

truth is we haven't scored anywhere near enuf goals all season.....I agree andy hasn't been prolific....but nor has anyone else either....

they've all played their part in various games but no one has managed to hit the net on a regular basis....its wivenhoe last year since an urchin striker scored a hat trick.....

and the chances we make....well its hard to believe really....

culdn't make it up culdya....

It's not always about scoring goals but whether you can keep them out.

Aldershot didn't score a heap of goals last season and not one of their players featured in the top scorers list at the end of the season but because they kept regular clean sheets it was their ability to grind out 1-0, 2-0 wins that won them the title.

From what I can see The Urchins have an exceptional defensive record but stupid errors have cost them this season. If you can find someone who can weigh in with 15+ goals a season then you are definite championship contenders.

From what I saw on Thursday night you lack a midfielder who is prepared to have a pop from 25 yards. Sometimes if a game is tight you need someone who is prepared to take a risk and have a go.

A creative midfielder would not go amiss as well. Somebody who can unlock a tight defence with a moment of magic or a fantastic pass. Unfortunately at this level there is not too many of them about!

I think it's this simple UB, Dougie has become a whipping boy for the fact that the team hasn't as UU says scored enough goals, it's easy to cope if the attack isn't scoring goals and the midfield does, but the goals are just not going in from anywhere.

Andy has only just got back in the squad with Lloyd and Taffe going and already people have a go at him. Dougie now has his chance with the suspension of Bertie to claim his place and i for one am backing Andy to take it !

look on the bright side we are only 44 Goals behind Canvey

I thought Saturdays game was really confidence boosting for all the players. There is nothing worse than losing or drawing a match and supporters to start questioning everything from management to coaching staff and then the players themselves. Why cant you just be satisfied that the team are doing fantastically well and support them whatever the result? Or is that just sport?
