I may be able to get a copy of the latest Windows from the TV station, they have some license than means they can copy software if it's for reviewing purposes.

I've heard it said that you can pick up Windows NT for nish off Kazaalite (not that I'd know much about this sort of thing). There's no need for you to get a new PC, but may need to go Broadband-tastic in order to make download times reasonable - our PC runs Windows 98 of an Athlon 2400 and will run at a steady 50kps (kilobytes per second) for downloading, if the other person's connection is up to it, which is all important with P2P software.

 

In other words - 2/3 minutes for a normal 3mb song rather than 30 minutes on dial-up. It's worth the extra tenner per month, trust me, and a lot of providers will chuck the modem in free too. As Webbo said, Windows XP requires a relatively new PC, but Windows NT will more than happily cope with whatever you need, will be cheaper and is (IMHO) better and more stable than XP.

 

Ah - one other thing. You may find that you need to upgrade your USB ports from 1.1 to 2.0. Check your system specification. Any problems, give me a call, and I should be able to swing it to get you most of the stuff you need cheap as chips.

I had a good computer day, I mananged to get my sound to work again, all the tracks on my hard drive to play again and installed microsoft office - Amazing thing is I have no idea how I did it!
