Saints 1, Urchins 1

A performance of grit and determination and, once again, a high work-rate for 90 minutes. We went behind on 8 minutes when Vinnie John rose unchallenged to meet a corner and I thought that Horhchurch just about shaded a scrappy first half, dominated by the defences. I was relieved to see the equaliser on 42 minutes when Richard Thomas outpaced his man wide on the right and whipped in a cross for Lee Clarke to meet at the near post.

[in the] Second half it was largely one-way traffic as Hornchurch weren't allowed to play. I don't remember a chance on our goal. We made half a dozen half-chances which couldn't be converted and the best fell to Lee Clarke again who was denied by Gay in a one-on-one. The best chance was actually a mis-hit corner from Graeme Butler just before the end which confused everyone except Gay who made a very sharp save. Perhaps it was a planned move. The Urchins would have been pleased to hear th e final whistle.

My MotM? Probably Gary Wraight, but they all played their part.

That chap in the NLP got the match report about right.

For me, a point that I would have willingly taken at 2.55 and well done to t'lads for taking it, and a little bit of what might have been come 4.45. The signs are there.

I agree, AFF, this was a big improvement. However, in saying that, Hornchurch were some distance behind Grays in all departments.

I felt the whole team did their bit on Saturday, but it is important for them to realise that it is no use just doing it for one match. We need to do it week in and week out for the next 12 games, if we are going to get anything out of this season. It can be done.

Come on you Saints! <img src="/images/graemlins/excited.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/excited.gif" alt="" />

I don't like the expression 'turned the corner' but, looking back over the past few games....

....a gritty and determined first hour against Kettering until we lost Corey Campbell and Derek Brown......4 goals and 3 points against Braintree,.....a competitive performance for a point against a clsssy Bognor Regis....a dominant 40 minutes against Basingstoke before going down.......4 goals and 3 points on the road at Northwood.......we worked hard for 90 minutes against Grays, the fastest side we have seen this season.....and a point which might have been 3 against the Urchins.

Ignoring the points, which we desperately need of course, we haven't seen that level of committment and work-rate over half-a-dozen games for over a year.

It's coming.
