Attacked by OAP at Nuneaton

Recommended Posts

History

Darren Acton is a keeper that Moor Green fans have long given stick to. He used to play for Tamworth (Moors' local rivals). Indeed when Tamoworth got to the Final of The Trophy last year, he made the effort to come into Moor Green's club house and gloat.

Tamworth won the Dr Martin's Prem last year and got promoted to the Conference. Sadly for Darren he was wound up by a team mate at last year's end of season Dinner. This team mate told him that the Management didn't consider him good enough for the Conference. After several drinks Darren made a speech slagging off the Management. He was released the following week. He then signed for Nuneaton this season.

Today's Plan

Dover video their matches, which you can view highlights of on their website. Darren made 3 howlers in the game which they lost 3-2. I gained permission from the Dover video editor to download the highlights of the match.

I took mt laptop, projector and large white sheet along to today's game away at Nuneaton with the aim of showing Darren the highlights of the Dover game - just in case he hadn't got internet access.

What happened

I predictably didn't have access to a power supply during the match, and the generator at the local Hire shop was too big to fit through the turnstile.

So we went for Plan B. We just showed the highlights on the laptop without projector. Darren ignored the offer to watch the laptop with us, when suddenly an OAP about 75ish came up and started lashing out at the laptop, nearly smashing it (which I thought was a little over the top).

The stewards kindly asked me to turn the computer off and put it away.

Where does this stop?

Are we not allowed to take phones into a ground (for they may have pictures on them)?

Are we allowed to take flags in?

Banners?

It was like a Python sketch!

In all honesty I expected the stewards to ask me to put it away and was quite happy to do this when asked (though not quite sure under what grounds).

But I didn't expect to be attacked (or more significantly have the computer attacked) by someone in his 70s!

Well...all I can think is that the OAP possibly took this call for extra vigilence a bit too far - he might have thought you were an AlQueda member plotting the demise of non-league football. <img src="/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Did he actually say anything while this was going on?

No -it isn't the lap top in question!

1. I appreciate that the aim was to wind up their keeper-as we always do against them.

2. I also suspected in advance that I would be asked to put it away (though I thought this would be from the stewards rather than an OAP) which I was quite happy to do when asked. However, having given it greater thought, I'm not sure what I was strictly doing wrong.

3. When the OAP started attacking it, my initial thought was for the computer's safety. It then became quite difficult to hold the bloke off with one arm whilst balancing the computer with the other without dropping it.

With hindsight I'd have liked to have made a complaint against the old bloke. But my thoughts were for protecting my computer.

I think when we play them at home next season(and therefore I can access power supply from our bar) I will set up a big screen and use the projector

to show it throughout the game.
