I remember watching a great tie spread over three matches between Enfield and Romford round about then, and I still have all three programmes.

Did n't go as I was only 4 at the time, but it's a occasion that some of our older supporters recall quite often.

 

I think I have the prog at home for the 2nd replay at Highbury.

I was eight at the time and went to the match; my father bought me an airfix model in the town beforhand. We caught the bus out side 'The Parkside' in North Street after back to Walthamstow.

 

Memories. Dont remember the match though.

I also remember the three games. Romford were in the Southern League and Enfield had just joined the Isthmian from the Athenian.

 

Enfield were always called Enfield FC however I have a year book which I am thinking about auctioning. The year book has many photographs of the Amateur Cup Final at Wembley and there on the score board is Crook Town v Enfield Town.

 

BTW Enfield won after 2 replays.

The Town suffix was just a typo. They were many fold those days. Just check back in the old Enfield progs and check how many teams would spell your player's names wrong.

Talking of typos, my previous post should have read Carpe Diem...Trust none of you thickos to understand Latin...My excuse? I was pissed when I posted...Only 46 hours to go and counting!

No your latin is not that good or you would realise that "Town" is not a suffix but more a greek epithet. Perhaps a Latin addendum.

 

But I do agree that it is or was an old french or middle english misnomer.
