St Albans 0 Grays 3

It's a depressing thing when you go along expecting to loose, and then when you loose you just shrug your shoulders and think "ah well, we've lost". I wasn't at Northwood on Saturday but I don't know how we scored 4 goals. Last night we just lacked pace. Have we got anyone who can run with the ball and beat players? Have we got any players with a bit of speed? Still no width and, seemingly, no game plan. Crap!

I don't know anything about football, Zagreus, but allow me to give you my view.

I was at Northwood on Saturday. [Please don't tell anyone else this next bit, Zag.] On the way home I thought to myself, maybe, just maybe, we might not get any points from the next two games and I was hoping to see something positive from last night.

Well I did. In my view, that's the hardest the team have worked for 90 minutes this season. They were up against a squad of full-time players who are, in my view, the paciest side we have met this season, by a margin. Right through the team.

We created several good chances and more than one should have been despatched, I agree. Grays created more, admittedly, and scored 3.

Talking to some of the players in the clubhouse afterwards, they were clearly disappointed and I detected a resolve to get us out of this. Too often in the past year I haven't felt that from t'lads and that's positive, too.

Stick with it Zag!

It all started to go wrong before kick off last night if you ask me ....

New signing (or so it seems) arrives at the ground to see he's made number 7 on the team sheet printed in the programme.

Highly delighted, nips to bar to calm pre match nerves.

Gutted, sick as a parrot, when it becomes clear an invite to the inner sanctum known as the dressing room is not forthcoming.

Stays in bar consuming an ever increasing quantity of alcoholic beverages until it is obvious it would be unsafe to drive home.

Walk, stagger along and manage to slip off pavement, perhaps practicing body swerve at the time.

Crocked ankle.

Another promising career destroyed by rejection and the demon drink <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

At times it did look like Div 1 North v Conference out there last night but t'lads battled hard and with a bit more luck might have had a goal or two. Grays might also have had more but for some stout defending and some good saves from Georgie boy.

The pace thing comes with full-time training, we'll probably see more of the same on Saturday. Fortunately there wont be the likes of Canvey, Grays and Hornchurch in the Midwest/East Alliance Premier Divison or whatever they decide to call it.
