Northwood 3-4 City

Recommended Posts

It seems that football is no longer about opinions, when I comment on here it is as a rule after many conversations with other supporters. The Derek Brown comments I made above were a collation of conversations I've had with supporters and dare I say it people who hold some autority in the club. If Derek is happy with his form then that's fine, I know many who aren't. If I were a player I'd be slightly worried about that.

I'll go on record as saying he has been a rock at times but these times are now infrequent and have been less and less since his return from Bedford. Derek has also sat down and had a drink with a few of the EFM boys as well and seems a OK bloke.

However I do not expect the current city captain to be sending me personal e-mails with a undertone of a threat in it just because I've made a comment on here, a professional would take the comments on board, realise that it is a game of opinions and try that little bit harder to change opinions.

I'm expecting a very very good last couple of months out of him now!

2. We need a new midfield - Castle, Wraight and Thomas is possible the worst midfeild I've ever seen at the club. Cockram, Duffield, King and Brett would be turning in thier graves (if they were dead)

Ah, now, Martin Duffield. Anyone know what he's doing now? <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

fair enough

on one hand its good that he's communicating with supporters who have to put up with his inept footballing skills week in week out

has Hemel still got that ski slope, if so is that where we train tues/thurs to acclimatise to the balls we play...

on the other hand, Brown ...who cares

Shocked? Moi? Not much shocks me either, JKiF.

I have always found Derek Brown to be an entirely approachable chap, actually, although I have enough sense not to ask for his autograph after a rare 'mare', of course. I think that he might be a bit of a pussy cat on the quiet, but I wouldn't much fancy playing against him.

Have a chat with him after one of the next games EFMTFTV.

As someone said on another thread, he's entitled to his opinion, just as you are entitled to yours.

I think that it would be good if more of the players came on here. Mind you, someone once said that you have to have thick skin to come on here. Me? I bruise too easily.

Not knowing that I am AFF, one of t'lads mentioned to me that he had read, with interest, the musings on here about this 'channels' stuff. Apparently you don't 'hit' the ball into the channels any more, you 'slide' it. I tried to show some interest but, quite frankly, it was all pretty advanced and well beyond me.

I tend to like the term 'put it on the grass'which I learned in my very brief association with Jeff Wood (of the John Kendall era).

Works a treat if you get it right, all about creating space in behind the opposition defence.

Quite happy to explain it AFF next time we meet. That's of course if you're interested. Not complicated at all.

Remember we're talking about exponents of the round ball.

Just tell me this HKS. Just this one thing.

If, for the sake of example, I was playing in the midfield and you were up front.......No. Stop.

Let's take Greg Deacon. Picture him in possession of the wrong shaped ball just inside our half. Lee Clarke is playing up front and 20 or so yards in front of him.

Is there a 'call' [as we say when playing with the oval-shaped ball]? Does one of them shout to the other 'channels' or some four digit code. If so, which one 'calls'? If not, how do they know that they want to try the channels thing?

Hyperthetically, Lee would know where to go because he would know what the Ginger one would do in certain situations. This would have been drilled into to them, both in training and in the prematch discussion.

Oh, and 'putting it on the grass' is not particularly a channel thing, although it could be deemed as such I suppose.
