Canvey vs Maidenhead

Superd controlled performance by the boys today. Once No2 got himself sent off for the professional foul and Lee converted the penalty it never looked in danger.

JK was masterful in the middle - what a work rate this guy has - form the begining of the game to the final whistle.

At the risk of being shouted down by the rest of the Yellow Army I thought the ref had a good game - he kept in flowing, gave advantage whenever it was possible and was not too fussy. Well done Mr Singh.

The only slight criticism of today - where were the Yellow Army. The only singing and noise was by the Magpies fans. How good have the team got to play, how many goals do we need to score, how many games must we remain undefeated before the fans test out their vocal cords and singing voices and give some real verbal support to the team?

Now for the semi-final

As our game was postponed a few of us went down to your gaff, and I must say gazza56, your comments are spot on.
To be quite honest, you wouldn't have known that an important cup tie was being played, because of the lack of passion from the fans - both sides actually! The thirty odd Hymen supporters were not particularly vocal either I thought.
For me, this was the biggest let down of the game - because Canvey's passing game and flair deserved a lot more vocal encouragement, cheering, and applause from the crowd than what they actually received.
Don't take this as a dig, but it could be asked if the Canv fans had become a tad complacent with seeing their team winning on a regular basis. I'm sure you're not.
Anyway, it's the third time I've watched Canvey this season, and I've enjoyed every match - tho' to be honest the Hornchurch and Grays matches [away] were better because the fans' passion contributed to the game.
Well done Canvey for getting thru' to the next round. Come on!!! If there's to be an all-Essex final, let's make it a noisy one!!!

I definitely bloody was! Good singing in the first half but went a bit flat in the second. In the semis we'll be noisy that's for sure!

I thought the ref had a good game too, very unfussy and yet kept control of the game. The other refreshing thing to see was players of both sides only stayed down if they were injured - otherwise they got up and got on with the game. I wonder if the overpaid actors in the Premiership will ever play the game in that spirit. Somehow I doubt it...

Many comments were made to me yesterday regarding our supporters by both players and supporters alike.

At the start of every game I say enjoy the match and make lots of noise, especially the Yellow Army. Unfortunately it takes 3 or 4 goals until we do.

I think the main problem is that when we are at home our support is spread out around the ground rather than all together when we are away.

Perhaps this could be sorted on the next supporters coach away trip and you all get together at home.

A lot is said about Fred the Bugle but that guy plays for 90 minutes (Is Play the right word)? LOL Fred.

More thoughts on yesterday was that the game seemed like a normal ryman league game where Canvey have all the ideas and just outperformed the opposition. Just got used to them passing the ball around and the other team just trying to pick up bits and pieces.

No game is going to be easy now in the semi-final but I would like to draw Shrewsbury at home in the first leg and being the underdog will get everyone going.
