Brentwood 5 Enfield Town 5

Town just about deserved what they got. Brentwood were clinical to say the least and coasting at 5-2 with 3 very good goals (they scored with just about every attack). In the end Brentwood were lucky to hang on. Town defence was poor - surely even Jim can't argue with that! Entertaining, but just too frustrating being an ETFC fan at the moment!

Shame they weren't clinical against Sawbo. I did try to suggest that this would be a hard game! I'd be surprised if anyone had predicted a 5 - 5 score line though.

The story I heard was thank goodness for super sub Johnny Ridout! Just think what we would have done if Johnny bless him had been fit and available. C'est la vie.

Poor goalkeeping....Awful defending....woefull finishing and to round it all off,bad attitude.

When the opposition have six chances in a game and you have over 20 (including 7 one-on-ones with the keeper....HOW THE HELL DO YOU MANAGE TO NOT WIN IT.

See above. <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

The defence has always looked suspect this season - note the results against Basildon, Belmont and the friendlies. The difference yesterday was that Chopper could be relied upon to make some fantastic saves and yesterday he did not do it. We have messed about with the forward line but have not strengthened the defence during the season. It is virtually the same 4-5 players that we started with. Exception is obviously Allan Fenn has gone but it is generally agreed that he was no loss.

I have said before that Bradley Brotherton is better as a midfielder than a defender. Bradley wants to be creative and he should be allowed to do it in the middle of the pitch not in defence. In defence he is inclined to be caught in possesion we came back when Graham Hall came on - stiffened the defence and allowed Bradley to go forward more and become the link (with Ridout) between defence and attack.

3-5-2 clearly did not work! Why with five in midfield did Brentwood win the midfield battle? What I would suggest is though we had 5 in the middle we did not have ball winners there. Bradley is a ball winner. Geraghty may have done better if he had been on if there were doubts about Ridout's fitness.

Geraghty instead of Gant/Millar in the starting line up?

Graham on from the start in place of Digby (Who played well but is not a defender who can be relied upon to stop the opposition) leaving Bradley in midfield and we may not have had to come back from 5-2 or even 2-1. It was clear in the opening 15 minutes that as far as skill was concerned we outclassed Brentwood.

I have decided not to comment on Danny Clarke as he must be so depressed this morning!

MOM was Lee Smith. Head never went down. Was tireless in midfield and did the job the manager wanted. Everybody else in the side has to consider their performance. A league title is a marathon not a sprint and you have to perform every game. Not take any team for granted. I am afraid that Enfield Town have not yet learnt that this season.

I still think that the title is between Sawbo and Us. Second place should get us to level 4.

How's that for a thesis Andy?

on a positive note, we didn't lose and we scored 5 away from home. (is that the most we have conceded on our travels?)

We can't defend.

We didn't have a midfield.

As for Danny Clarke, well I'm all for supporting players, but PLEASE can we let him go......preferably to Sawbo?

On the stength of recent performances we do not deserve, not will we get promotion, anywhere.

Why was Danny Francis on the bench?

Digby may be no defender; but at least he WANTED to play.

Come on Jim; get rid of all those so called "senior" players, we, the supporters deserve better than they are prepared to give. Give the youngsters a chance. Start building for next season, as this one is over.

"Some people are on the pitch, they think it's all over, it is now"!!

Yes Clarkey missed a hatfull of chances, but he put himself in the positions to create those chances....Once one goes in,the goals will start flowing again.....Also,you can guarantee if we let him go to another club,he'll score bucket loads for that team, and come back to haunt us.

He's still got his speed and strengh...Its his finishing that needs to be dramaticaly improved.

looks like Alan Fenn weren't the problem, its all them pony players he had around him. 5 against Brentwood............quality.

Told Clarkey weren't the player you think he is. Looks like a few of the ET fans agree.

Didn't your title challenge end against Brentwood 2 seasons ago with a draw?

I disagree that Clarke was MOM. He is too desperate to get that elusive first goal and it's starting to affect Town's game. The difference between Brentwood & Enfield was the passing in front of goal. Even though Brentwood didn't have many chances when they did get an opportunity they played the easy ball to the player in the best position to score. Town on the other hand were playing as individuals and not as a team. On several occasions forwards found themselves at an acute angle to goal yet, instead of laying the ball across goal, a shot would be taken which ended up in the side netting. The players have got to start playing for each other and not for themselves.

I agree with a previous post regarding formation. The 3-5-2 system has to be dropped. It only works if you have the personnel capable of playing in such a way.

Very good point and one we try hard to forget - Thanks for the reminder!

But I hear we were our own best opposition yesterday! No offence to Brentwood who are a fine club and we knew were going to be tough!

i dont se eactly how chopper is getting so much stick, they managed to score 5 vgoals from only 3 shots on target. The goal straight from a corner ws a pure fluke and an own goal didn`t help him.

Clarkie played well and it took four or five quality saves to stop him scoring and as well as two assists he set up a lot of other chances.

My highlight yesterday was the people behind the goal shouting at the ref that she was wrong and that we should have had a corner as she was standing on the edge of the D pointing to the corner-priceless from so many "experts"

Well here goes.

Although we started well enough yesterday, and should have been two goals up before Brentwood got on the score sheet, the players, on numerous occasions, didn't seem to know what to do when defending. I would question the relevance of having 5 midfield players and only three at the back when Brentwood found it so easy to by pass the lot of them.

We looked as though we were going to concede a goal with every Brentwood attack. However, it did seem that we could, and should have done so ourselves.

Players have got to remember that it is a team game and the idea is to pass the ball to someone in a much better position of scoring a goal than being selfish and wasting a chance, or two, or three or four.

I believe that a few of 'our' players really need to take a good look at their performance yesterday and take stock of how they let down those 150 travelling fans.

Yes, we scored five goals yesterday, but then again, we let five in!

Someone please prove me wrong because I am sure that I 'heard the fat lady sing' yesterday whilst getting back to the car.

Two other points - Interesting use of 'advantage' or 'disadvantage' yesterday and secondly, Keith walked out at 2 - 5 and we found him walking back to the station. We offered him a lift back to Enfield but he was so distraught, that he refused the offer. This being even after we told him that we had drawn!

My men of the match were Billy, Lee and John R, for coming on and causing havoc.

Whatever happened to the possible match winning free kick right at the end which should have been floated in, yet was sent out over the goal line?

Bring on Hullbridge.
