mistakes @ work

I cost the company £10k once with a mistake I made about six years ago.

They had new software and I'd had a half hour training session on it, and they expected me to be able to work it.

The fact I'm still here means, I guess, they took at least some of the blame!

Thing was, as I was the only person who had been "trained" on this software, I was the only one who knew how to re-print the entire job, and they had to pay me about 20 hours overtime to do so!!

In 1987 I accidentally ran a statement for every single company this broker I was working for had, as it was run on a Friday, it printed 100 of boxes and reams of crap which I was informed about when I got in on Monday.

I should have just printed about 100 statements for my clients but printed every accounts technicians accounts, the company had over 100 accounts employees.

They obviously did not get to upset. They eventually put in parimeters to stop anyone else doing this. I stayed with that company a further 8 years and got further pay rises.

JFK you are definetely in the wrong job.

When i worked for Scott Paper Company, just as i was taking a shower at the end of night shift our Supervisor informed me one of the machines wanted to change from White to Green as soon asap....I turned on the Blue and Yellow dye rigs and set the flows in....When i came back that night i was hauled to the Managers office who informed me i had reversed the Dye ratios.....and it had taken 3 hours before somebody reliaesed what the mistake was...even though the colour wouldn't pass spec.

Five years later.......they changed the Green colour....yep you guessed it.....to the Ratios i had put in by mistake.....3 years later........i took my Redundancy!

I work in an office, the company I worked for then, I was responsible for about 100 accounts for companies all round the world, I requested what i thought was the statements for my 100 accounts that I looked after, but instead requested statements for all the accounts staff in the office, therefore 100X 100 statements, these statements can be from 1 to say 30 pages of entries sent to a broker.

The whole lot had to be binned.

Thankfully I do not work for this broker any more but I stayed there for 8 years before leaving through my own choice.

Hope that clarifys.

Not that big a mistake (I suppose!), but when I first becam a key-holder at Costa I was left in charge to close for the night. Downstairs is a fire exit which leads to some bins where we put all our rubbish and it has to be closed firmly at night because it's can also be used as an entrance. Unfortunately, with everything I had to do and it being the first time on my own, I forgot about it and it was left open until 2am when a security guard noticed it. He phoned another team leader who had to come in especially to disable the alarm and close the door. He was not happy, especially as he had to be at work at 7am that day!

Also, one of the girls I used to work with once spilt coffee all down a customers designer jacket and, of course, we ended up having to pay the dry-cleaning bill. Oops!

I once cost the fruit machine company two grand after I was carelessly mugged.

When I worked in Fourbouys they did a stock take after I 'left' and realised that in my two months in charge over five grand worth of stuff had gone.

When I 'accidently' set off the fire alarms at the Savacentre in 1993 they lost 50 grand in lost sales/frozen food melting in abandoned trollies and fees for the 12 fire engines to attend a false alarm!
