Heybridge Manage Sacked

...appears the head honcho carrot crunchers were none to impressed with their performance on Saturday!

From the Swifts Site:

Heybridge Swifts today announce that manager Mark Hawkes has been relieved of his duties, along with his assistant Robbie Nihill and coach Liam Cutbush. After a poor start to the season, results had improved towards the end of 2003 culminating in a fine win at Braintree Town on Boxing day that consolidated Swifts in a Conference qualifying position.

Since that time however, results and performances have been on a downward spiral and the club has acted now in an effort to lift the team and everyone around the club in the push for a Conference spot that is within the team's grasp in the final two months of the season.

Swifts Chairman Andrew Barber and all at the club would like to express their gratitude to Mark for his total commitment to the manager's role and for the effort and hard work that he put into the job. All three of the previous management team have been involved at the club in various roles for many years and the club hopes it is not the last that we see of any of them at Heybridge.

Having made the decision for a change, Barber approached friends of the club for help and advice on the task in hand, one of whom was local businessman and recent supporter keith Cousins, who in turn spoke with his friend Colin Hill. Both Cousins and Hill have agreed to support the club, whose background they know very well, in an attempt to improve the playing side to the benefit of everyone at the club. Hill will take over as manager on a short term basis until the end of the season. He brings with him vast experience and knowledge of the non league footballing scene, and a myriad of contacts within the game. His task will be to organise and galvanise the team for the crucial matches ahead. He will be looking to recruit one or two new faces on the playing side, and his coaching staff will be announced in the near future.
