Leon is my favourite film of all time. NOTHING that I've seen has beaten it yet, and that is saying something!!

I saw Big Fish on it's opening day in Southend with two female friends of mine who were in tears by the end of it it was that good!

I love most of Tim Burton's work - Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Batman, Batman Returns, Beetlejuice etc.

I pre-ordered the DVD yesterday, (7th June I believe for anyone interested). Best film I've seen this year and definately deserved more BAFTAs that it won, (did it win ANY?) Hopefully it will be more successful at the Oscars this weekend and speaking of Tim Burton, hopefully Johnny Depp will get just what he deserves too - Best Actor Award for Pirates of the Caribbean!!

I think this year I will be unhappy for once if Lord of the Rings sweeps the board.

I think everyone was like that in the cinema last night...BUT it's not a chick flick, eh! It's subject matter is very much a "male thing", don't you think?

Clockwork orange rules! The three some where they speeded it up and put it to the benny hill music...or was it the wild west type music...i forgot but it was great.

Yes, I agree. I was moved by this film as much as my friends were too.

***SPOILERS***

I think the way Burton seemed to make it a happy ending to a sad moment, was what got me.

Finney's Son was telling the audience AND Finney about Finney's last moments and the way he described it, in much the same way as Finney had told his Life Story was a very good ending to a brilliant film. I also liked it at Finney's funeral that although The Giant, The Witch, Danny DeVito & The Korean twins actually did exist from Finney's stories - they weren't as exagerated as Finney made them out to be in the flash-backs. E.g. Karl the Giant wasn't actually as tall as Bloom made him out to be.

The whole Father/Son thing was a key factor in this point, Burton made this film shortly after his own Father had passed away and I think his emotions along with those in the novel and the audience interaction was what made this touch people the most.

Tim Burton's next film is a re-make of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka - VERY interesting!!

Bang on, Matt! That's a great analysis.

That's also why I think "the geezers" should watch it.

And even tho' I said it wasn't particularly a "kids film" my daughter enjoyed it, and when she woke up this morning she began talking about it. Obviously made an impact on her!

Talking of films/songs that were inspired by the passing away of loved ones, Automatic for the People [R.E.M] was one such album which was made following the death of family members.

Say what you like about it [detractors] but Everybody Hurts is a great song, as simple as it is.

Also, you know that Bread song [which Boy George, and others have covered] Everything I Own?

That was a response to the death of the writer's father. If you didn't already know - listen again![to the original] I guarantee you won't feel the same way about this song again.

There's some great films mentioned here, I think Ed Wood is superb, Leon is definately up there, Gary Oldman's performance being very memorable..

Then there is of course the rather fantastic Seven, a great movie took ages to get to see it, my top 5, in no particular order..

Seven

The Usual Suspects

Casino

Leon

Shawshank Redemption

Oh and favourite Bond film, which is a different category completely - Spy Who Loved Me, Connery favourite being You Only Live Twice

Claire, you obviously didn't understand it then.

It's not sex and violence for the sake of it, and the only sex and violence is in the first half hour of the film to 'set the scene'. Even the rape scenes were directed with a certain amount of humour to them, probably for this purpose.

In a nutshell, the film is about a brainwashing experiment to try and turn an evil mind into a good mind.

Did you follow that part of the plot when you watched it, Claire??

I'm afraid I can't list my Top 10, with the only exception of Leon being No. 1. I've seen so many films at home and at College from 1900s to present day that it would be impossible to pick just 10 great ones...

I can probably do Actors, Directors, but not films...
