Canvey 3 1 Bedford

Weird game this one. Canvey/Bedford matches are normally quite lively but this was a bit subdued.

A combination of the weather, the match being on a Tuesday night and playing 4 home games in 11 days meant this fixture was always likely to get a poor attendance.

You got the feeling that alot of people had they minds on Saturday!

We started sluggishly but went in front after a Neil Gregory penalty after the defender handled on the line.

A superb cross from Duffers saw the Bedford defender put through his own goal (can't believe Junior was given the goal!)to put us 2-0 ahead at half time.

In the second half we controlled the game and played some great football without creating the chances. Jeff Minton was having a superb game dictating the play with some excellent passes.

A mistake by Gav allowed Dillon to chip Danny from 30 yards and reduce the deficit.

This gave us a wake up call and a superb move involving Boylan and Minton saw Junior put through and fire home in style.

The Bedford keeper who had looked decidedly dodgy from crosses then made 3 fine saves from Boylan, Theobald and Minton to keep the score down in the last 10 minutes.

A good controlled performance that sets us up nicely for Saturday.

Lee Protheroe making his first appearance since returning from his loan spell at Gravesend had an excellent game whilst Greggors once again led the line superbly.

Minton was a box of tricks in midfield and J.K and Neil Midgley produced good battling displays.

Did most of the Bedford supporters turn up late? Their vocal lot were only really making any noise in the last 20 minutes and none of them seemed to be in the bar before the game.

Let's hope those who stayed away tonight turn up in force on Saturday!
