Dido Dispute

The Hooded Man and I were having a discussion about the delectable (yet exceedingly dull) Dido on Saturday, and whether it is her real name.

 

I reckon that yes, Dido is her real name, and her full name is something like Dido Armstrong.

 

The Hooded Man reckons it's a stage name.

 

Can anyone settle this, as I've been unable to find out?

Hmmm. Penultimate paragraph appears to back me up, although other sites differ slightly.

 

I'm sure I read an interview with her in Q in which she confirmed that Dido is her real name.

Which is far more sensible!!

I think Dido is her real name, because she was on Graham Norton recently saying how she got picked on at school because of it (hmmmmm...I wonder why that was? I mean what's so funny about 'dido'?hmmmmm...) so unless she's been releasing records longer than we realise, I'd say it's not a stage name.

Apparently she's originally from Luton! (That's what she told Jo Wiley on Radio 1 once in an interview in 2001). It is her real name! Her brother has a unusually name as well (i think) as I think one of her parents is from somewhere in Scandinavia.

As for her music, it is MOR to the extreme, which is a bit of contradiction.

Somebody who'd met her claimed that she was a lovely person. Apparently her Dad had a long spell in the same hospital I was in last year, and she stopped working and came into visit him every day, and became really friendly with all the nurses and other staff.

 

Doesn't really alter the fact that her music is a bit dinner-partyesque.
