EFM's Sponsorship Of Braintree

Recommended Posts

I had more than one person voice thier disapproval and "absolute disgust" to me on Saturday about EFM's sponsorship at Braintree a couple of weekends ago.

I would like to remind people of the following points...

** How I (or indeed any other EFM) choose to spend my money is entirely down to me, and I will not have people telling me how to do so.

** Who I (or indeed any other EFM) choose to be friends with is also entirely my choice, and is of no concern to anyone else.

This is before I point out that Lee and Braintree Town will have suffered a considerable loss on their bar takings on the 14th, as we all drunk excessively more than the £25 sponsorship fee we each paid.

There was no poor behaviour at the match and the "good name" of St Albans City FC was not dragged through the dirt.

In future, I'd be grateful if you kept your forthright opinions to yourselves and ask you to kindly mind your own business.

This is an Official AFF Statement:

For the avoidance of all doubt, I would like to make it absolutely and incontrovertably clear that I am not one of the 'aforementioned complainants'. I am not "more than one person"....err....err....that should be: I am not one of the "more than one person". I did not express "absolute disgust". I did not "take [Zealster] to one side and spoken to [him]". In fact, I recall that I bought the chap a drink on Saturday.

I am doing the walk, however.

So. One down, 224 to go.

Cheers Mark,

I'm with Zeal and will now just copy and paste his statement below:

Talking of the walk, I am one of the people doing it, can you get me a sponsership form please on Tuesday Zeal, although just how many people I can rustle up b4 Sat I'm not sure! I'll send a e-mail to everybody at work.

Also ... just spoken with the boss fella here (you'll all remember him - big bloke). Anyway apparently as part of our discounting the price of our matchday programme by £2,500 this season our company was also promised a match sponsorship.

You will not be surprised to know that we have not been inundated with invitations.

Poor show in my book. Mr AFF prepared to comment?

Eh? Moi?

From Zealster's post it would seem that some of the crowd of 225 on Saturday expressed criticism of the lads for their sponsorship of our match at another Ryman League club. From careful analysis of Z's posts, I guess that it was 3 or 4 people. I wasn't one of them. It would appear that these were "quiet words" on a personal basis and, whoever they are, they are entitled to their view, just as EFM are entitled to theirs. Freedom of speech, etc. Zealster made no reference to foul or abusive language so hardly a "Hate Mob Drove Me Out" situation.

I have no knowledge of any of the details of the contract between S.A.C.F.C. and Queensway with regard to the printing of the matchday programme. If, as part of that contract, the Club offered Queensway a match sponsorship, then I have absolutely no doubt that The Club will honour it's side of that bargain. I hope that there is no suggestion to the contrary. I imagine that the deal was concluded between John Gibson and the Chairman of Queensway at the beginning of the season and, presumably, the two of them can sort it out.

Err...... That's it. Always pleased to assist.

Hi HM.

The current Vice-President 'initiative' was announced in the matchday programme a couple of weeks ago and, as far as I am concerned, wasn't in place at the beginning of the season. Presumably, therefore, it didn't form part of any discussions with Queensway concerning the contract for the production of this season's matchday programme.

The Vice-President thingy is being co-ordinated by Malcolm MacMillan, HM. I have no doubt that he will be pleased to hear from you if you would like to 'sign up'. I imagine that a modest discount of, perhaps £10 may be available if you place a bulk order of two, but don't tell Malcolm that I suggested it.

[Here's one for you, HM: Who said "I wouldn't want to join a club that would have me as a member"?]
