Canvey Island have emphasised that winning the Ryman Premier title remains their number one ambition by re-arranging a league match just four days before their vital FA Trophy quarter-final.

Gulls host fellow Premier side Maidenhead next Saturday in a bid for the Trophy semis, but have brought forward their home league date with Bedford Town seven days to next Tuesday.

"We've switched the Bedford game quite simply because we had a spare Tuesday and we want to get as many league games under our belts as quickly as possible," said King.

"If we draw with Maidenhead in the Trophy the replay would have replaced the league game and we can't risk that.

"If we should beat Maidenhead in the Trophy we'll lose two more Saturday league matches for the two-legged semi-final. We've always maintained that winning the league after three successive seasons as runners-up is our number one aim this term."

Tomorrow, Gavin Cowan continues to deputise for back injury victim Steve Ward in the heart of defence while midfielders Ollie Berquez and Neil Midgley face late tests on hamstring injuries. Kevin Dobinson misses out through suspension.
