.........name the two teams who contested the first ever division one game to be played on a Sunday. Bonus point to anyone who can also give the reason it was played on a Sunday.

 

The first clue, which isn't really that much help anyway, is that it was in the pre-premiership days.

if you mean the first match of what is now the league division one then it was millwall 1 fulham 0 At that time it was a division two match. The reason was the energy crisis/minors strike/railway strike which meant no floodlights and matches kicking off early on a saturday to reduced crowds as many people couldn't get there on time. So matches were changed to Sunday . Profit rules over tradition. jan 20 1974.

 

Admission was free but programmes cost the normal match fee
