Which manager has produced the goods so far

Recommended Posts

The league is at an interesting stage with 5-6 teams in a position to win the title. Which managers have earnt their money and which ones have not.

Romford - Obviously biased but Mark REED has done a fantastic job so far. No money and no ground to call our own he has come up trumps.

Ilford - Lots of money to spend each week on players(rumours)their manager has so far done well and is in a good position to keep his job.

Sawbo- Don't know if they pay players but hats off to the manager, he has done well so far.

Concord- Paying lots of money (apparantly)Manager has done ok with good cup rund and still my favourite to win the league title.

Enfield Town - Sorry Mr Chandler but if you do not improve I think that the only job open to you will be your namesake Enfield F.C (Sorry)Lots of money, great support but I think you have shot your bolt.(No Mark Reed is not an option, he drinks too much and being a copper even that is too far for him to drink and drive home)

Abbey- Great season so far.

Basildon- Mark Jenkins must wonder why it has gone so wrong. Mid season form deserted the Basildon boys (concentrating on winning the cherry red)but are playing and winning well again and will beat top sides before the end of the season.

Good points there Mr Kiwi.....although I agree with most I would like to add my comments:

Romford: Mark Reed. He has done a fantastic job considering he has no money available. I watched Romford entertain ETFC at the start of the season (I couldn't make the London APSA game away due to work) and was impressed by Romford.A good mixture of youth and experience. They did have a dip in form when almost everyone beat them but have started to come good again. (with the exception of the Abbey result)

Ilford: Stuart Margolis has done a really good job taking us into a position where we can challenge for the title. Yes we have a bit of money to spend but it needs to be spent wisely and I think he has done that. Again a good blend of youth and experience.

Concord: Ben Embery has the experience and Concord have proved they are a tough nut to crack. One big advantage they have is an excellent catchment area to choose their players from so in my opinion are expected to do well.

Sawbo: Don Watters has got his team playing to their strengths. Win every first ball and second ball and that it. Mr Watters has a big hatred of Ilford so expect fireworks this Saturday.

ETFC: Well....its easy to criticise but like so many of the supporters have already said Jim Chandler and his team have achieved so much in the short time they have been around. I think it would be very harsh to get rid of him but in my opinion he has to produce the goods before xmas 2004. Saying that ETFC are far from out of it...although their home game against Sawbo will be their biggest and one of the toughest of the season.

Abbey: Again...the same as Romford.Manager has done very well with his young side and if they can stay together for a year or so will go on to be challengers.

Basildon: I have a lot of respect for Mark Jenkins and his team. An honest bunch of lads who never give in. A fantastic start but then it all went wrong. Why...? who knows but Mark will have them up challening again next year.

Eton Manor: In my opinion their manager Mr Whitelock and his team have my vote for the "Best improved team in recet times". A great set of lads that all work for eachother with a never say die spirit. Mr Whitelock is my pick of the managers..!

Right......(big sigh) there you go....

I'm off for a nap...!

ETFC do not have loads of money. Don't forget. wegroundshre so do not benefit from sales at the bar. In addition, lots of money has to be spent on the new stands, hence tonight's quiz night. We're not skint but we do not have loads of money.

However, if I win the lottery on Saturday, believe me, ETFC will be going places!

People suggest that ETFC have "loads of money" I wish!

The club is a supporters club and paid for by its fans. I dont see many rolls in the car park and we do not have a rich sugar daddy to bail us out.

Nobody has mentioned the expense we were put to by the chairman of Leyton.

Nor have they mentioned the money that was wasted at fixture between Leyton and ETFC when the league insisted that we have extra policing.

With the oldest player turning out for the Abbey at the age of 26 and the youngest at the tender age of just 16 I strongly feel that this young abbey side have definately stood up and been counted for. Bobby Ballards side this season have beaten some of the title contenders with impressive footballing displays plus sheer grit and determination. Well done to B.B,L.J and all the players and people associated with the waltham abbey football club, keep up the good work.RB

Being biased i would go for Whitelock for the simple fact he gets 16 players every other week travelling to burnham for home games that should win manager of the year without doubt. No funding no expenses top man but you have got to give credit to Mark Reed (romford) and the waltham abbey manager for some quality performances again no funding. To end there all managers deserve credit fir putting up with selection headaches and so on well done to them all.

At this level you got to take your hat off to all the ESL Managers, in saying that my vote goes to Whitelock. Unless you are close to the Manor you can not appreciate fully what he has achieved. He has transformed Eton Manor, he has put together a team of people from scratch, he's lifted spirits and gives people belief that they can win every game regardless of who they are playing. Next Season the ESL will hopefully see the fruits of his labour!

I know it's been said many times before but Jim Chandler's confidence could probably do with a boost at the moment so here goes again....

Five Trophies - Essex Senior League, Essex Senior League Cup, Middlesex Charity Cup, Cherry Red Capital Counties Feeder Leagues Trophy, Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy.

Runners Up in Essex Senior League and Middlesex Senior Cup...

.... all in the previous two seasons. Whilst things haven't gone quite our way this season we're still in with a shout in the League and are still in two of the cups. It'll be a long time before anybody comes close to a managerial record like that....and whilst I may have criticised some of his performances this year, the Club Captain must also take some of the credit here. Well done, lads!

I hope police officers don't drink and drive any distance!

Two Managers spring to mind, our own Kirk Whitelock and Bobby Ballard of the Abbey, what people seemed to have forgotten in all the jostling for position, is that these two guys have put their faith in youth,( Manor had 14year old Lewis Jones on the bench yesterday ) a big factor in any side, along with total respect and honesty, all this will eventually pay dividends. If both these teams manage to keep their respective squads together, they will be challenging for honours along with the big spenders in the next few seasons
