CANVEY 4 0 STALYBRIDGE

YELLOW

Recommended Posts

Not a fantastic performance but a battling display against a Stalybridge side that posed a real threat in the first half. They never really created any real clear cut chances but battled well and certainly Danny Potter had to be alert on a couple of occassions.

We got lucky with the goalkeeper fumbling what looked a routine header from Lee Boylan over the line and he was probably at fault for Neil Gregory getting a touch on Minton's free kick for the third.

Superb goal from Dobbo that nearly broke the net and could have had a second with another powerful drive that threatened to take the heads off a couple of supporters (including myself behind the Canvey goal)

Nice to see Mints back and I thought Gav Cowan was a steady replacement for Wardy. It was a lot closer than 4-0 suggests but this was a job well done and when we had to roll up our sleeves and battle we did just that. It wasn't pretty but we're in to the quarter finals and that is all that matters.

A good crowd tonight of 761 despite the wet weather and the big game down the road at Roots Hall. Let's hope for something similar on Saturday when Carshalton are the visitors to Park Lane.

Interesting to see a certain Adam Miller scoring twice to put the Shots through to the Quarter Finals.

Agree that Cowan did a good steady job there and after missing so much first team action. Was a bit concerned when Wardy or Buzz weren't named in the starting eleven to tidy up at the back but thankfully their front two weren't ultra quick.

Good to see Buzz come on. Thought that JK would switch to right mid when Dobbo came on but it was a straight switch for Midgley and what a goal from Dobbo. I always feel that JK should play on the right as he used to as he exploits that area so well, but he is playing so well in the middle too.

In all, a good result but it could of been a lot closer if their keeper hadn't bungled the second and if they had had a bit more luck but who cares and it has been good lately seeing us come through these games on top when in recent years we would have drawn/lost in these type of games.

Well done and keep it going boys but the next big one is this Saturday, and so on. We'll look at the table sometime in two months to see how we are doing!

What was wrong with Wardy by the way?

YA 2003 - I know we all have our own views on a game but I must confess my wasn't the same as yours. I thought we played really well and the score could have been a couple more for us. Had you seen the game at Stalybridge you would have been overwhelmed at how well we played last night. Stalybridge was a strong side but again they couldn't do the finishing because we wouldn't let them, thats down to team play and we were almost back to our old selves.

As near always as soon as a team from a different league are beaten by us they immediately harp on about wage bills and Conference grading. These opponents always say things like 'Its not sour grapes but', yes but what a load of Bollo*ks!!

Look at Stalybridge Forum, what sad losers!

Not sad. Bitter.

There's a difference.

I'll agree with the losers bit though. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
