A soggy lettuce

is a possible way to describe our most recent performance. The Trophy game yesterday was a follow on from our previous few games. Missing in recent games and yesterday was the crisp decisive football that we have grown to expect from our Canvey team, gone is the creative play of Minton in midfield and yesterday to add to our woes was the absence of hard working John Kennedy.

We have now tried a series of combinations up front and the only one that works for me (and the team by all accounts) is that of Boylan and Greggory, things improved for us in the second half when Junior was replaced by Greggory and we then looked to be more decisive going forward.

In my opinion we lacked luster yesterday against a very average team! have we taken a bit of a dip in our form or is it that we don’t travel well? Stalybridge battled well and worked hard and could so easily have won the day if it were not for the excellent Danny Potter who saved our Bacon on a number of occasions; our defence worked extremely hard but it was not happening elsewhere for us. To coin a saying from our own coaching staff, ‘We weren’t at the races yesterday’.

We will see how Stalybridge perform after the long journey our boys had to endure and how their supporters would feel should we be so thoughtless to them as they were to us but I am sure that we will be more hospitable than they were.

I will hope for a return of Minton and Kennedy for the Tuesday replay and also the pairing of Boylan & Greggory up front from the off.

If the team play as well as we know they can the game will be ours on Tuesday, no doubts at all.

Couldnt agree more, the last few games have been a struggle playing teams that we would have beaten easily a few weeks back.I also feel we have struggled since greggory hasnt been playing,I was chuffed when we signed Mcdougald but he has not produced the goods, although he grafts well he seems a bit lightweight and is easily disposessed when he has the ball.Certainly without Potter playing out of his skin we would have been beaten in a few games recently, lets hope for a better performance on Tuesday and get back to playing the Canvey way!

The last three league games have been tough, Hendon, Hayes and Grays but we have still managed to come away with 7 points from 9 where it could of been less. The game before Hendon, Farnborough was an absolute rout. Not sure if they played all first teamers though, but since then things seems to have got very tough. Likewise I would like to see the Gregory & Boylan pairing and hopefully JK and Mints will be there suspension/injury permitting. Midgley is still not doing enough for me out there on the right where JK used to exploit that position. I have my doubts also about Theobald as he is just too slow. Wonder if Cowan would play as well there.

We seem to need an injection to pick things up again.

Pardon me jumping in on this part, I'm just curious how the Stalybridge supporters were inhospitable towards you? We were at one end of the ground, you were at the other.. Not a choice made by the supporters.

The only thing I can think can have perhaps influenced anything would be your Jingle Bells blowing trumpeter and bell ringer, which seemed a very odd (and annoying) combination to us, but I don't think anyone was abusive about it.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong however.

Dug out Dad - I wasn't refering to your supporters, infact I met a few in the pub nearby and found them to be OK. It was your officials who were thoughtless enough to stick us in one little corner with no cover at all and initially refused to allow us to go under the cover out of the rain. However they did cave in after a lot of pressure also in the seating area Canvey Supporters were moved from one spot to another time and again although those seats never had the words 'Reserved' on and many never were used at all.

Why segregation, we have never had a reputation for misconduct in whatever numbers we take away?

Ahh ok, thanks for the clear up.

As for the segregation, I vaguely saw something in the programme, I'll see if I can dig out what was written when I get home this evening; but yes, it wasn't necessary (except to perhaps prevent our more vehement supporters throttling your trumpeter )

If anyone was ringing their bell near me, as well as blowing their own trumpet, I'd move away from them pretty fast.
