Staines Town 1-3 Slough Town

Another great all-round performance. A few scares at the end after Staines had scored their dodgy penalty but Foster made some crucial saves. Goals from Boot and Hodge (2), all of which were beauties. Good Slough turnout again, excellent to see.

Well I have to say that the first two were both very good, especially Boots goal. I don't know about Hodge's second (and our third) though, it was a good header, but I don't think "beauty" describes it well.

Well done to the lads again, a really good performance against another high flying team. Hakki was lucky not to get sent off after kicking out at a Staines player but otherwise he was probably our best player and his creativity from midfield has helped turn this season round for us since Walton away. Hats off to Fozzy at the end, I was already round by the exit gate and saw his last two saves at close hand. The diving tip over really was quite special. He did, however, have his usual dodgy moments but when he makes crucial saves like the ones today, even I can live with it. Finally, I have never seen a more obvious non-penalty given as the one today. From standing behind the goal we had a direct line of sight at the incident (the same angle as the ref I might add) and Daly made a fantastic tackle to touch the ball away from the striker. Very unlucky not to have our third clean sheet in four games. Hope to see everyone next Saturday and wouldn't it be great if we could turn the tables on Lewes after the game down there earlier in the season.

I have to say I am hugely impressed. There is a great team spirit and real quality in crucial areas across the park. The front two are on fire and Skips and Smurf have established a formidable pairing. Hakki is different gear. It is an awesome turn around from the Walton debacle. I honestly do not think I can remember two such impressive performances back to back.

Staines were very disappointing although I appreciate we played them at a good time. They are a dirty team with an appalling attitude and I think they do themselves a great disservice. The ref was very weak and allowed far too much to go and hence the problems throughout the game. How Mark Pye lasted ninety minutes today is beyond me.

Now lets just hope the boys can keep it up. Come on you rebels!!!!

i have to say that apart from the last five minutes today the defence has been looking really solid, even with Riddell in there! So when Moller gets back to fitness, will there be a place for him in the team. Also, all three goals were cracking today: Boot's 25 yarder, Hodge's overhead 'thing' from an impossible angle and a beautiful header from fifteen yards

Having missed the Bromley game (and seemingly almost every other decent away performance this season) I was hugely impressed by yesterday's win.

It would be wrong to say it's all down to Hakki as that would be unfair on the other players who were collectively excellent but Veli really is a class above everything at this level. Mickey Lewis must take some credit and the change to two up front also makes a big difference.

Staines have some good players but would do well to play with a little less aggression and be a little less obnoxious (although their keeper wasn't quite as gobby this time ). The number 6 spent the entire first half playing the man and not the ball, the foul on Hodge by their number 3 was premeditated and dirty and Pye, in particular, was a disgrace. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that the Halifax manager was alledgedly attacked by a Staines player after the final whistle on Thursday.

Good to see another fantastic turnout by Rebels fans although the new "stadium" was hugely disappointing.

Well done on your win but I hate to admit you couldn't have caught us at a better time,I think any side would have beaten us today, we only had half a first team out and those who did play were completely knackered. I feel it would have been a very different story had we not played those cup ties during the week. Still thats football.

Staines do seem to have a very large squad, so the midweek games may not have played too large a role. Personnally I thought Staines should be knackered, and in the first half they did, but as the game went on, far from tiring, they put more pressure on us. Can't see them wining the Fair Play Trophy, but I think they'll be there at the end as they wouldn't give up. Maybe though at 3-0 up, we sat back a bit.

Good all round performance today again and long may it happen....well done lads...

As for Staines playing all those game ...yes we can feel for them but they would have also had to have played the FAT next round on this day too !

if they had beaten Halifax !

Its not our fault, and giving an extra day rest if we had played Sunday ... Slough on this performance would have still won...I an sure...

Up the Rebels....

Just read the back page of the Non League paper !!

Halifax to ask for answers re a major incident just after the game last Thursday...

We had problems at the First Match,at Windsor whereas we were blamed for the trouble after the match ??

But again yesterday we had to witness some poor tactics and off the ball incidents !

Yes I know it takes 2 to have a go...but funny it always seam to happen only when Staines players are involved .....

Funny that......or NOT !!!!

After the Walton defeat people were asking on this forum if it was the worst Rebels team ever, and when we lost at Worthing i couldn't see us finishing in the top six - and now four wins on the trot. I think Veli has made the difference because he goes past players, makes the space, inspires confidence. Booty is regaining his form, Hodgey is scoring with ease and our defence, especially Steve Daly, is looking so much more solid...

Really looking forward to the Lewes game - let's hope they bring a lot of fans and we get some atmosphere at stag meadow.

After your excellent result against us yesterday, it's a shame that you could not keep your comments to the match, instead of referring to an incident which you read about in the NLP and had nothing to do with Slough Town. As for yesterdays game, I think the referee bottled out of two red cards, one for each side, the tackle by our defender in the second half should certainly have seen him walk, and your player for kicking our guy when he was on the deck. That doesn't detract from your teams performance, three good goals, and some tremendous saves by your 'keeper in the closing stages which might have resulted in a very flattering scoreline for us. Despite some obviously underlying animosty by one or two of your supporters, you have a superb supporter base and they were tremendous yesterday. Both clubs are still in the promotion zone, so I will wish you all the best for the rest of the season, and hope there are no hard feelings between the two clubs in the future.

Why is it wrong to mention information that is in the public domain when it's a direct and very relevant example of the attitude of some (not all) Staines players which was the issue under discussion? Slough Town Football Club were at least partially blamed for the incidents at Stag Meadow although you have to consider the conduct of Staines players on more than one occasion both in matches against us and others which implies a behavioural trend.

Staines supporters have been very magnnimous in defeat and it's a shame that the players do not conduct themselves with a similar level of dignity.

Anonymous, can I also point out that Alcove Man and Matt STFC were both at the game on Thursday and so saw the incidents first hand, so in the case of Alcove Man in particular his comments come from his own vision rather than just reading the back of the paper. As Ian says these matters are already public knowledge and it does seem there is a definate attitude problem amongst certain members of the Staines staff, having seen the two matches this season. I have already said in this thread that our man, Hakki, was lucky to stay on, and all credit to you for admitting the same fate should've met your player as well. Thank you for your positive comments about our performance and good luck to you for the remainder of the season, as the vast majority of your fans and staff are obviously decent people.

A posting from Mr anonymous of Staines...

referring to an article in the NLP....

Well I did not know about thursday incident until I read the paper...which is now common for all to see so why not mention it...or has self censorship been enforced at Staines...

cheers Chris....
