Winning the league

Number9

Recommended Posts

Can someone please answer this question. Ilford and Enfield Town are the only teams that have applied to be promoted this season (obviously depending on where they finish in the league). They have or will have the required ground gradings etc and obviously will do what ever they can to secure promotion i.e paying their players.

Why are there other teams in this league ( i know of at LEAST 3) that are still paying players?? why are they not saving this money and putting it into getting the ground grading needed to secure promotion and then rewarding the players.

Thats not to say teams like us will not try as hard to win every game it just makes no sense to me. Anyone shed any light?

the last post comes from a guy that is picking up a little wedge at the Abbey!!

How comes you are not willing to sacarifce your wages for the ABBEY huh!!

although i do agree with you! the club should concentrate more on puuting money into the club rather than the players

Perhaps there are grudges to be paid back.

There is a substantial wedge in the Mediteranean Islands and some chairmen do believe in subsidising clubs to a great extent.

After all why do two Irishmen who dont much like football and an American who may not understand the game tussle to take control of Man U.

It appears that nowadays football games are not always played on the pitch.

You should read Football in the dock. It is a discourse on the corruption in football.

Am i right in thinking that the Ryman league requires 150 seats AND covered accomatation for a further 300....The last time i was at Ilford they had no covered terracing at all.

Whats the current situation,Foxy

What the hell, shouldn't be paying the players.

What a stupid thing to say. Most people who play at this level do so because they can earn a few quid, alright it ain't premiership wages but every little helps in this day and age.

If a club decides not to pay it's players because it wants to improve it's ground then most players will leave. Knock on effect lovly ground for Ryman but team not good enough. There is a fine line between having a successful team and running a successful club.

Ls...The situation at our place is that the funds are in place and work will commence and be completed before the end of March 2004.

A new stand will be erected behind the dugouts on the far side of the pitch and the turnstiles and fencing will be finished around the same time.

This assurance has been given by the committee.

Watch this space.

Re players getting paid.

For the last few years we have scrimped and saved to be able to make a strong challenge this year. Yes players get paid decent money but only the

previously sucessful clubs at this level have paid their players.

Lets look at the last five years ESL winners:

1999 Bowers

2000 Saffron Walden Town

2001 Brentwood

2002 Leyton

2003 ETFC

With the exception of Brentwood, all previous championship winning sides over the last 5 years (and even before that with Canvey,Fords,Basildon and Concord) have paid their players well.

Unfortunately, money attracts a higher calibre of player.

Unless you have a potentially good team full of youngters like Waltham Abbey, then the only way you are going to win anything is if you have some sort of financial backing, and even if a side like Waltham Abbey does continue to progress I predict that within two years their players will have received an offer they cannot afford to turn down.

Then the Abbey management team will be back to square one.

I'm not saying this is right...but this is the way it is.

Foxy - beware promises from committees.

I'm not saying we have it right @ ETFC; but I think the fact we regularily get between 12 - 20 people turn up to work on the ground, is we have been bitten before.

"if you want something doing, do it yourself"

money attracts, and whilst I admire what WA are doing with their youth policy, a few quid to a teenager for doing something that you love, does have a certain attraction.

i agree with you both foxy and st but at least 6 of our players have been offered £50-60 by sides and said no. everyone here is enjoying there football.

that was not the point i was making, what im getting at is why are teams like concord paying the sums of money they are to win this league when it will not get them promoted?

The fact is, if a player is fortunate to be in a position where he can earn some money then he should take it. I must confess i thought all clubs in this league paid there players some money be it how big or small.

So what sort of money can a top player look to command in this league and for what team would he need to play for. My name says t all remember.
