Kettering last night.

A much more determined and battling display.

No Zoricich or Wallis, so Wraight played at right-back and Castle started, and finished, in midfield. De Souza played in an attacking midfield role and looked ...err....err....potent. Gave 100%.

A scappy first half with a couple of chances falling to Saints but both defences well on top and the attacks limited to long shots.

Fewings came on for Kettering at the start of the second half and the Poppies pressed. On 57 minutes, Campbell was fouled and damaged ankle ligaments. Will Davies came on and Miguel dropped back to a more defensive position. 5 minutes later a deep cross found their bloke a yard outside the area, well-policed by Brown, in a line of 3 defenders and three attackers. He turned and they both went to the floor. The referee said foul, last man, you're off [or words to that effect]. De Souza went to centre back.

Stout rearguard action now but Kettering scored 2 in 6 minutes. A cross from the right slid home and a 30 yard scorcher. 2-0.

Shinn looked the part, George Clarke did very well indeed but my MotM was Graeme Butler at left-back.

A much improved performance.

Yes, another defeat, monkey boy. However, you, like me, will have seen every first team game this season and you, like me, will be sick of travelling home after each game thinking "O.K., we lost and it was poor but for the love of Jesus, I would like to see a bit of passion, committment to the cause, effort and work-rate". Well you, like me, will have seen some of that at Kettering on Tuesday night for the first time for a very long time.

I don't know anything about football, monkey boy, and I am grateful for the wisdom and perception of your posting. It hadn't occurred to me before but you're right. We do need points.
