Best Defensive Record in England - An Update.

Hornchurch still hold the record for best defensive [league]record in England.

Calculating each match on a standard 90 minutes - and not allowing for time added on - the following statistic is produced.

 

Hornchurch

Played 26

Conceded 16

Means that HFC concede a goal every 146 minutes.

 

Arsenal

Played 25

Conceded 16

= goal every 140 minutes.

 

The margin between the two clubs would probably be greater if we included "time added on", as we all know referees at Conference level and below seem to dream up the extra minutes. More often than not non-league games last nigh-on 100 minutes!

 

NOTE: Keep a look out on Football Focus on BBC on Saturday. This statistic MIGHT get a mention - unless some rather more pressing news [like Beckham changing the shade of his eye shadow] forces it out.

I think you're getting Best def. rec. mixed up with goal difference! AFC Wimblebum's is impressive, but their goal conceded rcord is still less than ours.

 

AFC Wimbledon [as of 10th February] - Played 25 Conceded 18 = concede a goal every 125 minutes.

 

What division are they?
