Ilford's secret weapon

"I dare you to go up to fenny and ask him how he played for the Town."

Fenny to you is it? If you know the boy so well you would know he's honest enough to say when he's played well and when he's had a mare.

You said it was Alan Fenn that tucked you up and cost you loads of points this season. I'm saying that is nonsense. The Basilson game yes he was at fault for a couple of goals. What other points did he cost you. Comments like that pi55 me off. Jim Chandler and all the players are responsilbe for any points you have dropped this season no one else. To blame it on an individual is the easy option ecspeacially if that individual don't play for you anymore.

Ilford have a better defensive record than ETFC and Alan Fenn has had a big hand in that.

For a centre half he is always good for half a dozen goals a season and none of them will be from the penalty spot.

Right now you could do with an Alan Fenn on the pitch and in the changing room to get you out of this rut your are in.

This started by you questioning his attitude and that my friend i am telling you is top draw. Its your loss and our gain that you didn't see enough of him to find that out.

FENNY IS A LEGEND, FENNY IS A LEGEND LA LA LA LA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He scored 2 last week.

1.esseyboy,How many of fenns performances for ETFC did you watch, apart from the Basildon game?..as such you can't criticise my opinion of his displays(unless you are FENNY-maybe you are,you seem to be very sensitive of any criticism towards him.

2. 'Ilford have a better defensive record than ETFC and Fenn has had a big hand in that' MY POINT EXACTLY.

3.I never questioned his attitude (which i think is first class),i was questioning his footballing ability whilst playing for us.

My recollection of Fenn's performances for us, despite his good reputation, is of some very poor displays. That having been said, the statistics don't necessarily bear this out, particularly as we're not looking much better at the back now. Chopper has saved us on quite a few occasions lately...

Not including friendlies, Fenn only actually played for us 9 times - and in only 3 of those did he play 90 minutes. In those 3 games we conceded 3 goals - and a further 6 in the other 6 games in which he played some part. I think in that early part of the season we were still remembering how good we were at the back last year. We've not lived up to that this season.

Morning all....

Re Alan Fenn.......

I cannot comment on how he played for ETFC because I never saw him play for them however I can comment on his performances for the Foxes and he has been superb.

His organisational skills and leadership qualities are fantastic, and he has started to notch a few goals too....and like essex boy has stated has the experience of winning the ESL a few times.

I do know that after speaking to him when he first came over to Ilford that he endured a nightmare period at ETFC and that his performances were poor.

Anyway...we very much appreciate the old boy!

Re Danny Clarke.....LS...I agree with alot of what you normally say but Danny's hold up play is very poor. Danny's at his best with the ball at his feet running at defenders or with the ball over the top. If he had adifferent attitude and was willing to learn about hold up play the bopy would improve. Unfortunately he doesn't show any interest about improving his game because he feels he doesn't need to. I think that says it all about young Danny.

Alan Fenn had a bad time at ETFC. Probably because he appears to have had a different role to the one at Leyton. He was often the last man and seemed to lay off the strikers.

We lacked pace at the back when Fenn was there and that still appears the situation now. However Graham Hall and Snowden seem to have a better understanding and Graham is playing better now than he was earlier in the season.

As far as Danny Clarke is concerned. It may be that you were not playing him to his strengths. It is true that he cannot hold up play and he wont wait for midfield as he knows one thing go to goal and he is good at it. He has the best first touch of any town player - apart possibly Brad Brotherton and can go through defences as though they were not there. The problem he has at the moment is that he has not got another good striker with him. Last year it was Hilaire with Turner in midfield. The opposition know that he is a danger so when he receives the ball there are three players round him. Unlike Cooper in that situation he doesn't fall down but turns towards goal.

Danny needs to be up front with Billy Cove taking Billy's knock on and flicks to build up a relationship. Behind them should be Lee Smith and Brotherton coming from deep and with Matt Negus on the wing we have a tremendous midfield and attack. Riley giving additional support to Matt. That attack would score goals aplenty.

We just have not been able to play it this season Matt has been away studying and Brad has had to bolster the defence, Lee has been injured.
