Danny Clarke is still an Ilford man; just look at his so call performances for ETFC, and you can see his heart is not in it.

good move Ilford;

shame he is keeping other players with hunger out of the team

What a load of crap. The reason we are not winning is the due to fact that our strikers are getting no service whatsoever, and the rest of the side, Brotherton apart, does not look like scoring. Cooperman didn't threaten at all last night, and we only looked sharper up front once Brad moved to centre forward and we adopted a more direct style of play.

Clarkey is a particular type of player, relying mainly on his speed and one or two little tricks. The team really has to be picked to play to those strengths, making it a bit of a one trick pony, as someone said last season.

Cooper is also a runny sort of chap, and it didn't work out too well playing him with Danny last night.

I still recall that game at Sawbo when Cooper and Smith first had 90 minutes together. I rate that as our best footballing display of the season (ok we had some help with the result).

I agree about Brad, but I as I said on another thread, we looked LESS like scoring when he moved up front, as that's not his game. He will always score goals from midfield though.

To get back to DC, maybe he would best be played wide rather than as and out and out striker. With out proper wingbacks gome we badly lack width, and Danny would still be able to cut in and score goals, and do his little thing on the goal line.

In my opinion your best system is 4-4-2 with Cove and Clarke up front.

Cove can supply Clarke with knockdowns etc. but Danny needs someone to play off. He is a proven goalscorer at this level but his skill level is very limited and teams need to play to his strengths if they are going to get the best out of him.

Unfortunately your manager seems happier accomodating players then playing his best system and team.

Once that is addressed I believe ETFC will be up there challenging again.

Indeed, Steph. Wolfie called himself Wolfie but that wonderful old dear (Hilda Braid?) persistently called him Foxy. I liked the last-ever episode - storming parliament during the summer recess in a knocked-off tank. Class.

Off topic, but who gives a flying Bas, really.

Foxy's right Danny Clarke skill level is very limited.

First touch - Very average

Hold up play - Poor (just turns into defenders)

Understanding of the offside rule - Struggling

Left Foot - Hasn't got one

Finshing - Just ok, but will create plenty of chances through his frightening pace

Attitude - Stinks, scored alot of goals in 2 ESL seasons and has turned into a big time charlie. How many times have ETFC fans and Ilford fans seen him throwing his arms up in the air and generally sulking when things ain't going his way?

We are well shot of him. Dave Allen & Ronnie Watson. Two footballers with alot more about there game than Mr Clarke.

Agree with you on some points,esseyboy......your wrong about first touch and hold up play, though.

Talking of attitude, just wait until Allen and Watson have got their feet under the table.

Why do you think they are playing in the ESL....players of their talent should be playing at a higher level.

It's down to ATTITUDE,my friend.

Also its not Clarky that has tucked us up this season...its bloody Fenn that cost us loads of points at the start of the season, and now he's helping your win by scoring goals.

It's players with the attitude of Alan Fenn that will help Ilford FC move onto the next level. You obviously don't know the man. He has been superb at Ilford and has lead in recent years Saffron Walden and Leyton to honours at this level and above. If half you fraggles didn't have a hang up about he's history at Leyton you would of had a real asset there. Graham Hall, Snowden etc couldn't lace his boots. He may of cost you some points against Basildon, but any points after that your team have dropped themselves. He has the strength of character to prove you wrong. Just ask Kev Riley & Brad Quinn and they will put you straight. Alan Fenn won't appreciate me mentioning this, but he is playing in the ESL probably because of age rather than attitude or ability. 30 League games a season is alot easier than the 46 played in the Ryman.

Don't know the boy Watson yet, but if he played regular for Fords in the Premier this year that'll do us.

Believe me Clarkes touch and hold up play are as bad as i say. He has no awareness of the midfielders supporting him and will just turn up his own [****!!****] time after time. Can't knock his goal scoring record at this level, but if you talk about the next level if you want to compete he ain't the answer.

Mr Fruitbat would confirm he isn't anywhere near the likes of Cox and Archer at Cheshunt.

Anyway looks like you'll be requiring his services in the ESL for another season at least.

I've never disputed Fenn isn't a 'top-bloke' or that he's played at a higher level.....I'm saying for ETFC he couldn't defend for toffee...in fact towards the end it was getting embarrassing and Jim kept playing him long after he should have been shown the door BECAUSE he was previously Leyton's captain (the emperor's new cloths-and all that).

How can you comment on Fenn's performances for Enfield Town or Clarkeys come to that....I can probably count the number of times you seen both of them in an Town shirt,on one hand.

I dare you to go up to fenny and ask him how he played for the Town.
