tonights result

What an all round team performance, everyone played their part in tonights result. How many times this season have we played a team and for 90 minutes been hungrier for the ball than the opposition and we were winning all the 50/50`s and some 40/60`s!! Wilko i thought was everywhere tonight and hodgey led the line exceptionally well and deserved his goal as he made the first and third and won the penalty for the fourth. A specially mention to Ryan Williams I slagged him off in my last post but i thought out on the right side of midfield he had a cracking game. Well done you rebels I see Staines drew in the trophy too and thier replay is on Thursday! SHAME!!!

The result is every bit as good as it sounds. Great performance from EVERYONE, very hungry for the ball. You couldn't pick out one player who didn't give 100%. Anyone who didn't go, missed some delightful link up play between Hodge, Boot, Hakki and Williams. Good old-school songs as well made for a great atmosphere.

It's just a shame that, at 3-0 down, the ref decided to send off their 'keeper for bringing Hodge down. Everyone decided it wasn't really necessary, and when the penalty went in, it was quite quiet because we knew it was just a little bit of a shame. One of their defenders took over in goal.

Having said that, their 'keeper couldn't catch a cold. I can only recall him catching twice or three times, each time when not under pressure. He fumbled every cross and shot (and I mean EVERY), and ironically the player who replaced him in goal did much better, catching a couple of balls and making a great reaction stop from a deflected Miller shot. We could have had 7 or 8 tonight but you can't say fairer than a 4-0 away victory at a club who were 7th at the start of play.

Well done Rebels... bring on the Staines on Saturday (provided they don't beat Halifax)

refs have got to make common sense decisions. Adie Browne getting sent off and giving a penalty away against Dulwich changed the course of the game, and sending the keeper off and give the penaly when the side that have given the penalty away are 3-0 down is just stupid. Just give the penalty, but don't punish the side when the result's beyond doubt.

btw, great performance from everyone. only slagged foster off once and to be fair it was the only time he came under real pressure, some beautiful link up as Matt said above, just a superb team performance from the whole team for the whole game

A top performance from the boys last night. Bit of a shame the ref felt the need to send the keeper off although by the letter of the law it was the correct decision. Had it been 0-0 or 1-0 with ten minutes to go I'm sure we would have demanded him to go, but with the game virtually decided I felt a little common sense would have been better and given him just a yellow.

That shouldn't detract from an awesome team performance in which every man fought for the ball and showed how much they wanted to win. Daly, Wilko and Hodgey were inspirational and the rest of the boys more than pulled their weight. Some of Hakki's play was superb and his flick rightfully had us singing Brazil of the Ryman League.

Was a little surprise that the attendance was only 227. Nice to have covered ends though and some noise from the opposition in the first half at least.

Well done Eddie, Gilkesy and Mickey. You've got the lads playing to potential. If only our matches at Egham and the Casuals hadn't been called off - we could be six points better off now and in 4th position.

It was good to hear some "old School" songs again tonight! But you surely missed one old school song off! Brian Mcdermott`s rebel army!! could have been quite funny! Seriously though I am still buzzing from last nights game, hopefully we can build on this performance as last night was how I know Slough can play. Talking of songs thought it was a bit harsh Gilksy was asked for a wave and not super Eddie Denton.

Just thought I'd pop back on here to congratulate you, last night was probably the best performance I've seen by a team all season and on the back of it you definitely deserve a top six finish.

That said, I would like to hope that the result might have been a bit closer had we not been quite so dismal last night. That was one of the few times in a little over 10 years of watching them that I have almost been embarrassed to be a Bromley supporter. Our 'keeper had an absolute 'mare and only 3 of the players came out of it with any credit at all in my eyes. I'm just hoping that we can turn things around for our match against Windsor on Saturday.

I would agree that the attendance looked higher than 227 but I think I heard someone say that they'd discovered a fence down round the back after the game and that they thought a fair number of the younger members of the crowd may have snuck in that way.

Best of luck for the rest of the season.

Thanks for checking back here Iona. As I posted on the Bromley forum, I hope your boys can pick themselves up after this result and push on towards a top six finish - neither of our clubs should be down in the depths of Level 8 of the pyramid.

Keep you chin up, and take note that you play Worthing on Saturday, not Windsor.

Very surprised the att was only 227 as well but you can't stop those pesky kids... anyway in case anyone wants the times of the goals:

Boot 35, 82 (pen), Hodge 47, Harris 53

I'm also regretting the fact that we missed the two midweek games BFR. How nice it would be going into Saturday's (potential) fixture having possibly won 6 on the bounce.

Brillant, battling all round performance with great away support again.

Last time i was at Bromley we won the league to get promoted to the conference and they were relegated...so its certaintly a lucky ground for me. As for the attendance, that's a joke. The sending off was also very unfair on the keeper who was so awful i felt sorry for him. Hodge to me dived (again) which is one aspect of his game i really don't like, and is not necessary as he's a great goalscorer.

Last nights performances was one of the reasons i continue to support Slough despite living in Brighton.

Great stuff last night an excellent performance. We were in control from start-to-finish and played some really good football. I think Veli's return to the club has had a positive influence on everyone. Thought him and Harris combined really well last night at times.

Wilko was everywhere - like a man possessed and the defence played really well.

If you look at our side now (and bench) compared to a couple of months back we had the likes (and no disrespect intended) Adrian Brown, Mark Bartley, Rav Braich and Chris Payne either starting or on the bench. Yes they are good squad players, but they are not up to the standard of the ones that have come in and replaced them.

You only had to look at the bench last night to see we have a good side now we have signed a couple and have a few back from injuries - and Steer and Moller were not even used! Be interesting on Saturday back to see if Haddow gets a place even on the bench!

If we keep injury-free I think we'll beat the majority of teams in this league, but if not I think we may struggle.

Really looking forward to Saturday - could be a cracker if it's on. A shame Staines ground (which is impressive) is not covered at either end.

Super smashing brilliant great. Unbelievably good. Would you like to go to the grim north more often Gary?

I quite agree with Radders that the team deserve Men of the Match. The spine of the team was sensational and the centre backs in particular seem to have developed a good understanding. If only we could play like that every week.

Not wishing ill on Staines but I really hope they lose tomorrow as I can't wait for us to have another game. Come on you rebels.

Having spoken to people at tonights reserve match (2-2 Spencer(pen)/Deaner) it seems that my decision to award the team 'men of the match' has been overturned by the powers that be (Gary <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />) and will now apparently read Wilko which I don't disagree with although I thought the team performance was so good that it wasn't fair to credit only a single player. I have also been banned from writing "Williams, affectionately known as 'the crab'" which I thought was a bit harsh but there you go. Gary is boss, Gary is leader, Gary won't be there again Saturday (YES). Sorry, should say, Gary, affectionately known as 'the muppet' won't be there again Saturday (YES). <img src="/images/graemlins/affig.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/affig.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/affig.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/affig.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/affig.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/afro.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/afro.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/afro.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/afro.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/afro.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/alk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/alk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/alk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/alk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/alk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/bootyshake.gif" alt="" />

Taken from the Kentish Football Website's report from Tuesday night -

'On the hour-mark the many traveling contingent started to sign “Brazil of the Ryman League” and wearing amber shirts and blue socks you could be forgiven Bromley were playing a side of that caliber as Slough Town were the best side to play at Hayes Lane for many years.'

How nice of them to say so!!!!!

I also liked this one -

'Vines’ however, pulled off two saves late in the game from Hakki’s free kick from eighteen yards that brought ironic cheers from the Slough fans, shouting “Bromley’s number one” and from Slough substitute Danny Steer who tried to beat the stand in with a snap shot from 22 yards.'

Although they've got our subs mixed up and it shows that I got the 'sub' keepers name wrong but still, good reporting. It obviously wasn't written by the muppet who started swearing at us as he wandered out after about 65 minutes.

If anyone wants to read the report in full it can be found at

http://www.kentishfootball.co.uk/

and it contains quotes from Veli Hakki from after the game.

When you click on the link above it takes you to the Kentish Football homepage. Go to Ryman on the list down the left hand side, then click on Bromley in the centre of the screen where it says Clubs Covered and then the top news link (10th Feb).
