ETFC 0 - 1 Waltham Abbey

I feel one win each in the 2 games was probaly fair....for me, both games were dull and lacked passion.

Abbey have a young side with very good potential...but i hope they keep their feet on the ground.

They must remember that they were probably playing against ETFC's weakest squad since we have been in exsistence AND that squad are playing paticually poorly at the moment.

Saying that, i do like Abbey a lot more than Ilford,Basildon,Concord..ect...and i hope they finish above those lot next season.

Finally, even though the Town are in spot of bother (form wise) at the moment....I still have a feeling in my water, that we will be playing in the Ryman next season.

Ps....To Pinnacle...You were stupid to heed your managers advice.

It may be the only time in your playing career that you have a crowd chanting you name...You should have responded.

Hmm, I'm not sure I was at the same game as everyone else here! It was not a classic in pure footballing terms but an engaging tussle nevertheless.

Not taking anything away from Abbey, who I find an impressive and enjoyable team, I thought Town were awful last night. We had a great deal of possession but failed to do anything with it. Never mind how often Chopper touched the ball (he made several outstanding saves in the second half) how many serious shots did the Abbey keeper make? Put another way, how many did he actually have to move for? I can't recall ANY.

So there we are, playing with two wing backs, neither of whom are actually wing backs, and a centre back in midfield, we're huffing and puffing down the middle pretty much ignoring the width of the pitch, getting nowhere and Abbey's breaks getting steadily more frequent and more dangerous. So we take off one of our recognised strikers! We take Brad Brotherton (our best outfield player last night) and shove him up front next to Clarkey. Now Brad's great strength is scoring goals from midfield, like Bryan Robson used to. I thought the only chance we had of scoring was that way (or a dodgy pen). But playing up front is not his strong point and from then on I knew we would lose it 1-0.

Fair play to Abbey, good side as I say, and a probable title challenger next year. But there are serious problems with the Town, there is no balance or clear sense of direction, poor passing, poor movement off the ball, very poor finishing, woeful defending.

good noise from behind the goal in the second half.

... apart from when we scored.

But where was the 'noise' in the first half, I've heard more noise in a cementary?

Can't help it if it's quiet where u live!

Invisible - yes you must have been at a different game!

Cooper put in a lot of work and casued problems for Abbey. Yes his touch is letting him down; but as he perseveres with the effort his touch will come back

As for Brad best player all season.

there keeper had to make several saves, and i the second half he was lucky when the ball hit him when goal bound.

now next time get yourself to the right game!

So we agree about Cooper (I thought it was lunacy to take him off, unless he was injured) and Brad, then. Brad's commitment and consistency is an example to others.

As for their keeper, I;m not talking about routine catches, I mean serious efforts on goal, on target, with pace and not straight at him.

Do you honestly believe that Town's performance was satisfactory?

That's exactly what what we're debating, old Wars of the Roses combatant!

To move on we have to recognise what's wrong and what's right. Obviously that's Jim's job but half the fun of being a football supporter is trying to do his job for him!

Jim's comments in the programme were very telling.

Sure our league season is over now, barring miracles, but we are still in the League Cup and the two mickey mouse cups.

I was agreeing with you until your last post.

1) The season is not over with 8 games left it is not even 80% over.

2) We are in three cups - none of which is Mickey Mouse but equivalent to our level.

The rest of your posts including comments about Cooper and Brad are pretty accurate.

dont worry our feet are firmly on the ground. as a team we were not pleased with our performance last night and thats the truth, we are a lot better than that i.e last tuesday. but we played poorly and beat the champions.

i agree last night was not a classic game but someone got it right when they said it was an interesting battle. the pitch was vey dry and made the game a bit slower. the game lacked passion? i dont think so, could not be further from the truth.

dont mean to keep going on about the age of our team but last night we lined up, 22, 19, 22, 19, 19, 17, 22, 24, 23, 17, 17. the subs were 16, 17, 19.

if we hang on to this squad we will be in with a shout next season. this season we want to finish as high as possible.

Well yes, 8 games is a possible 24 points (obviously!) But we have to rely on other teams dropping points, and most of them have games in hand. Our own form, especially at home, is not good, so a dramatic turn round is necessary. Of course such things do happen and we should not give up, but realistically we must now be considered outsiders.

Surely the GBMT and the MCC are rather superfluous amd meaningless competitions? Why is a second League Cup necessary, and indeed a Second County Cup? I would expect Jim to field a "squad" side for both.

I have to Agree with Invisible Man

I watched a poor game from Town's point view

Abbey defended better were first to the ball more and seemed to want it more.

we had a lot of possession but did not seem to know what to do with it and as for clear cut scoring opportunities to few and those we had were waisted or snuffed out but abbey defenders.

fair paly to Brad B he was really working hard and chopper was his ever reliable self. Young cooper was causing problems but too few and his touch was letting him down.

No width, no direction and little passion from what I saw

be first and want it Town ....come on.

What is happening ??

We have gone from being a good team playing in a league we should have no real problems with to a mediocre ESL team that lately seems to struggle to win a game let alone win the title.

I do not mean to be disrespectful to other ESL teams with that comment.

The passion from the supporters is there, the effort put in from those who give up their time to run the club is there.

JC made some good comments in last nights programme notes, some of the players need a kick up the ****.

Do they want to win this league, progress the club and play at a higher level or not???

All the above said Well done Abbey on your win no sour grapes you stuck to your game and got your winning goal.

Good luck for the remainder of the season

yeah, well done Abbey.

Town have a lot to sort out; but time is on our side. If not this season or even next, we will still be striving for promotion. 7 different competitions this seaon, and we have no disgraced ourselves in any.

We just want instant success, and that does not happen.

Well done the Abbey, I felt you just shaded the game, and made up for last week. I really thought the Ref was absolutely one of the worst this season.

Pinnacle, you played pretty well, but I was distraught that the Ugly one failed to turn up.

Best of Luck for the rest of season.

Who said anything about the cup competitions you mentioned being superfluous when we were winning them?

They are competitions we have entered to win, otherwise we shouldn't be in them.

The more games we have at the moment the better it will be for all concerned.

I know that people are unhappy with the team's performance but Jim and his staff are working hard to turn around the run of poor form. Don't forget, we have come a long way in such a short space of time that people expect us to win every game. This is the real world and it will not happen!

Let's give the team, and I mean the management as well, all the support we can and think about our performances and not worry about anyone elses.

See you all on Thursday evening.

We got just about what we deserved from the game with Abbey appearing to raise themselves as most teams seem to do against us.Maybe next season we can come with an un-noticed late run for the title like i hope sawbo can do this season.

Back to last night abbey stuck to their game and played as a team for 93 minutes, well done, lets hope we can learn something from them.
