THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Recommended Posts

Sitting in my neutral seat as is only right, and knowing what a truly competitive league this is, on the basis of Home wins being 3 points and every Away game being 1 point but,if the game is Home or Away against a fellow top five club then its just 1 point..... this would be the final days' table ( goal difference as now ) .....

1. Enfield Town 68 points

3. Concord Rangers 67 points

2. Sawbridgeworth Town 67 points

4. Ilford 63 points

5. Romford 57 points

That is what I call a Battle Royale .. good luck to everyone involved !

If you realy are the chairman of the ESL, is this appropriate behaviour?

Not sure such speculation should be comin from your "office"

What's your problem? It's only a bit of fun. Nothing to do with the fact that you lost to the Abbotts last night then ?

Oh dear, if I have touched a raw nerve, I apologise ..in any case , this little game of mine went belly up after a few hours for the very reason that I originally gave... the sheer competitiveness of this league for which we all play a part and can be very proud. I recall season 1999-2000 when three clubs all ended on same points at the top with goal difference seperating them. It could well happen again ... but that's speculation and somebody doesn't like me doing that, so I will leave my little game and just sit in my "office" and watch proceedings as they unravel in Feb , March and April.

No, don't worry about tigerfeet, Mr C, it's good fun! Any statistics putting Town top of the league are fine with me!

Yes do continue BUT go down to sixth (currently goal difference) to include the Abbotts.

Am all for a bit of fun!

Oh shucks, the support is overwhelming though the results of my re-jigging these stats may not please some folk ! Still, they bear out my previous speculation. I am now including Abbey and the Bees so its down to seventh ( no more re-jigging ! ) so the 3 points Home win 1 point Away is still the same unless its one of the top SEVEN clubs in which case its 1 point only Home or Away..... wait for it .....

1. Concord Rangers 65

2. Sawbridgeworth 65

3. Enfield Town 65

4. Ilford 62

5. Romford 59

6. Waltham Abbey 59

7. Basildon Utd 55

So.... and you can't blame any Chairman for saying this - Goals could make all the difference , let's see loads of em' before the season's over ?

 • 3 weeks later...

I asked for goals and, boy, are we getting them - at both ends ! Without changing the original criteria and noting that more than a few "shock" results have come about in the last few weeks, this is the last day prediction table again :-

1. Sawbridgeworth Town 65 points

2. Enfield Town 63 points

3. Concord Rangers 62 points

4. Ilford 60 points

5. Romford 59 points

6. Basildon United 55 points

7. Waltham Abbey 55 points

A couple of shock results and it could all change again - keep up the entertainment folks !

I thought it was all over? According to our league chairman it isn't yet. 2nd would be nice but our form is to say the least erratic.

If town don't get the second place then there really will be a lot of teams next season fighting for the promotion place. I can name at least 3 other clubs up for it next season.

I'm told Ilford now cannot have their ground ready to get their Ryman grading in time, is that right? Come on Town lets get our grading so this season is not a total wash out!

Last time I extrapolated, I was recommended Imodium !

Because of the strength in depth in this league it certainly isn't over yet and I encourage everyone to keep up the entertainment on the field ! As far as we are concerned in the ivory tower , Enfield Town and Ilford have put themselves up for promotion if they finish first or second and we look forward to them both fighting for every point they can get - its just that their presence seems to make every other club treat games like Cup Finals ! Great for spectators but obviously nail-biting times for their respective supporters.
