On the player front:

Bayliss and Prosper will be leaving the club.

There's a good chance Henry and Gilbert will be signing back on.

I think Scott said so far there are 6 players who've committed for next season

And I think Scott said there were a couple of ex players who could be returning.

Ogbonna and Slavi haven’t asked to leave but are naturally creating a lot of interest. So basically expect these 2 leave aswell.

What were the key points?

Ambition for next season?

Medium-term / long-term goals?

Player's budget for next season?

Ground improvements?

For me the biggest announcement was the new purpose built training centre being planned at site within the towns borders. It’ll be the new home for the academy and junior teams but the plan eventually is for the first team to train there if we go full time. Plus the site will be open for other commercial avenues (pitch and room hire, cafe etc…). So madddive investment and very exciting.

Not likely after he refused to be a sub! Not sure we want a player who has that attitude?

Playing budget will be increased for next season (obviously no figures given!).

We can look forward to a brand new toilet block being built on the Berkeley stand side. Plus potentially a new fan zone on that side too.

The 6 players was regarding those leaving/in discussions. Scott definitely mentioned something being announced this Saturday but couldn’t remember if it was regarding a current or new player. Maybe Scott can confirm?

Really disappointed especially with Dan that he wants to leave as he always gave the impression he loved the club and fans. But as we all know there’s next to no loyalty in football so unless you have bucket loads of cash it’s very hard to retain your best players season after season. Big hole to fill at CB, but as Scott said it’s going to be a very busy summer so I look forward to and trust he’ll be bring in the right calibre of player.

His attitude must have been terrible to be at the club for so long…

Thanks Glen, that does sound exciting!

Improved and a more competitive budget is good to hear.

IF I heard right… surprised to hear Ash say (in his opinion) our budget was around 10th highest.

I remember reading a quote from Lenchy saying that he was prepared to sit on the bench and wait his turn.

And Scott saying some where along the lines that he thought Lenchy shouldn't be/was too good a player to be on the bench.

I’m more inclined to believe what Scott says!

Lenchy wouldn’t have been happy being a squad player, that’s for sure. It’s not only that, but he would’ve been an expensive player for the bench. Lenchy and I are still good friends, but like I said last night, I just felt as though Leon would’ve been the one to make way for him in that midfield which I didn’t believe was the right thing to do! Leon is now attracting attention from some big clubs in the EFL so the decision I made, whether it was applauded or hated, has proven to be the right one at that moment in time.

Regarding ‘10th highest’, I honestly don’t know where that has come from! I just had to double check that I was the only person that didn’t hear it! That definitely wasn’t said!

I think Ash’s message, along with mine, is that ‘if’ I can get our recruitment correct with the budget we have then we can achieve a top half finish and over achieve. You only have to look at the cost of Leon, David and Slavi to see that there are some exceptionally good players who don’t cost stupid amounts of money. The issue with that is that they won’t always work as well as those 3 have! Its down to me now to try and get that correct!

As you’ve now heard, I was offered the opportunity to go and work with two bigger budgets in this league and turned it down as I have no affiliation with those clubs. The work Ash and the board are doing is absolutely brilliant and I want to be a part of that. It’s not an overnight fix, it’s a slightly longer term plan which I’ve certainly got the patience for and I hope you guys have too!

Thanks to those that came along. Really enjoyable evening.

Maybe I heard incorrectly but I thought Ash said something like in his personal opinion after talking to loads of other chairman he felt our budget was around 10th?

Are you able to say what % sell on we have if Leon leaves Southend?

Ash has just confirmed by text that he didn’t say that! 😅👍🏼

Nobody has put pen to paper as of yet but we are hoping tomorrow night at training that one player would have done by then!

As for the sell on, it’s pretty bog standard figure that most clubs would ask for. I don’t know if I have the permission to disclose that, but if Leon did move on for a decent fee then it would be a little bit extra for the club.

Fair enough I’m hearing things in that case!
