Tonbridge 0 Hornchurch 1

cup of tea

Not a great start to the day, the dartford crossing took ages to get over! Decent game though both teams going for it, quite a bit of pressure from Tonbridge but I thought that Hornchurch were the better side particularly in the second half. Always that element of a dead rubber but still entertaining well done to both sides for that. Nicely taken goal by Darren. Think the scoreline reflects the game. Well done Hornchurch

What a lovely Good Friday, whilst others were battling to get to their shopping shires, we were traveling into lovely Kent. Yes the bridge was slow but it is a bank holiday and to be expected.

A good crowd on a lovely sunny afternoon, got the chance to catch up with a few others and it seems we are a happy bunch, pleased with our position in the season back in the Connie South.

A nothing to gain game for either team, however the game was definitely more than that.  3G, 4G or whatever an astro pitch is nowadays. Lots of press in the first half and we sprung the trap DMcQ ran through to the calls of offside, but the flag stayed down,   twist and turn and a pull back to off set the keeper and D McQ slots it home. the home fans were baying for the offside but the goal stood. There ended our long ball tactic to spring the trap, as the lino bottled it and the flag went up quicker than prices in our supermarket.

A few hefty challenges and knocks. RS limped of with a knock and not much more in the first half.

Second half, Tonbridge huffed and puffed, applied the pressure and came up with not alot, apart from a wonder save from a shot outside the box deflected but MT palmed it around the corner of the post.

We sprung their defence a number of times and had a couple of one on ones, but good defending and an unlucky touch saved Tonbridges blushes.

Our travelling fans were great, sang their hearts out as they do. The final whistle and three points in the bag.

Big shout out to Charlie Pigram, I thought he ran his heart out and caused them no end of problems.

Roll on Monday.

This was the thing with playing the offside trap against us, we have the players to beat that and Daryl’s style of play allows quick interpassing , notice they picked up a couple of yellow cards when it didn’t work. Mind you we caught them offside a few times too!
