Chelmsford City 1-2 Enfield Town

There's no doubt we're much improved.

After 23 games (so half the season) we had 15 points and were 9 points from safety.

After 42 games we now have 44 points. So in the second half of the season we've picked up 29 points from 19 games - an average of just over 1.5 points per game.

If we'd maintained our form from the second half of the season throughout the entire season then we'd've been looking at a total of approximately 70 points - putting us not too far adrift of the play-offs.

To be fair to the club and management teams they were caught out by the magnitude of the difference between the leagues.

Some of these clubs not only have professional squads but also have professional recruitment managers. Hard to compete against that when trying to persuade players to join a new, untested club at this level.

Hopefully lessons have been learned if we stay up.

Each of these last 4 games could be crucial, but arguably this one is season-defining. Looking elsewhere, I expect Welling to pick up 3pts at Hampton. Salisbury should be too strong for Aveley. Meanwhile, I hope that Eastbourne will be too strong for St Albans, but the hard, bobbly Clarence Park pitch is quite a 'leveller' at this time of year. Worst case scenario, we're back in the bottom 4 on goal difference come Saturday evening. Best case, we move 6pts clear of St Albans with three to play. All we can ask is that the team give their best!

Contradiction in terms with a ‘bobbly pitch’ being a ‘leveller’.
