Dave Sargent

From the non-league paper site:

"Northwood’s long-serving defender Dave Sargent is also set to join the Saints, having completed 365 games in just over six years with the Woods.

Northwood boss Tony Choules was naturally disappointed to lose his stalwart: "Sarge has been a great servant to the club but he leaves at very much the wrong time. At 26, he has had his head turned by a big offer from St Albans and we cannot compete with that type of financial package. It leaves us with a big whole to fill though."

I thought we were skint?

What we need is a midfield, something we have not had all season. Then maybe our defence might not have to take it on the chin for the whole 90 minutes. And it might help a little if Zorro and Brown played in the centre and we got shot of the other ornament that partnered Brown on Saturday.

Spot on, Brew. He's dealing with Secretarial stuff on a temporary basis. He's a diamond that chap. And I heard that it's £50,000 a year. Don't be ridiculous.

By "signs" Webbo, I assume you mean "deals with the paperwork". Knowledgable though he may be, I don't imagine that the board and the manager leave that chap to personally select which players that the club will acquire.

From the Northwood Site :

09/02/04 Sargent goes marching to St. Albans City

Long serving defender, Dave Sargent is set for a move to fellow Ryman League Premier Division club, St. Albans City.

Sargent, 26, made his league debut in an away fixture at current Ryman League Division One outfit, Egham Town way back in October 1997 and during an illustrious career at Chestnut Avenue, picked up the Supporters' Player of the Year twice. An ever present in the championship winning side of 2002/03, Sargent also collected the Players’ Player of the Year award.

The popular attacking left back has played in 248 league games for the Woods, scoring thirty goals, in addition to netting on twelve occasions in 94 cup appearances.

A clearly disappointed Tony Choules commented,

"Sarge has been a great servant to the club but he leaves at very much the wrong time. At 26, he has had his head turned by a big offer from St. Albans, and we cannot compete with that type of financial package. It leaves us with a big whole to fill though.”

Northwood Football Club would like to thank the player for his services and wish him well in his future career.

At last, a dedicated left back who appears to have a modicum of pedigree. Now can we sort the f.....g midfield out, please. We could start by taking a look at Dean Brennan...... and before someone starts mentioning the budget (as they surely will), there are at least 5 or 6 tarts that played on Saturday which we should be looking at shipping out.

Jon Challinor? Don't think so, Rob. I was told Shinn played a couple of reserves games for Gary Roberts at Cambridge City after he left United and didn't impress. Good enough for us though, it seems. We have better than him in our current reserves. Trouble is they'll never be given a real chance while Castle is in charge.

That's slightly worrying. How long have we been able to afford 'big offers' for players? Because we haven't exactly shown it so far, have we?

Maybe it is classed as a "big" offer from their point of view, but an absolute bargain of a buy for us?!!!

Ahhh, Shinn, is it? That would explain why I couldn't find anything about him on any websites. Hope the surname is correct on the Ryman forms <img src="/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

T'lad spent 6 years at Cambridge United and was released because they couldn't offer him a professional contract. Full story here: http://www.cambridge-united.premiumtv.co.uk/page/BreakingNewsDetail/0,,10423~480057,00.html

From the CU site:

Shinn Released

Third year scholar Michael Shinn has been released. Fellow third years George Clark, Leigh Meddows, Daniel Hammond and Lee Summerscales were released before Christmas, but following injury problems earlier this season, midfielder Shinn was given until the end of the season to stake his claim for a professional contract

However he was keen to decide his future and after pressing the management for a decision he has left the club to go on trial elsewhere

"The boy wanted an answer and we couldn't say 'yes' to him because he hadn't produced enough for us," explained John Taylor. "We were quite willing to keep him on to the end of the season and see how he did, but he wanted a decision so at the time it was a 'no'."

19-year-old Shinn was with the club for six years.

I thought that Michael Shinn was a little anonymous on Saturday but he had a very good game last night. Mind you. Anonymous is, perhaps, a compliment in the light of Saurday's performance[!].

So did George Clarke. My MotM was Graeme Butler, however.

A spirited performance last night.
