An opportunisic goal from Ryan Baxter on the stroke of half time saw the Bulls pick up three huge points in their push for promotion and to try and catch current leaders New Bradwell St Peter.

The Bulls are four points behind the leaders and they meet on Tuesday 29th April at Hall Road - so there is still a lot to play for.

In a game dictated by a strong wind both, sides produced some good football, United started brightly and pressed Codicote early but didn’t have a chance of note. Codicote were relying on playing on the counter attack and had a couple of efforts but Dylan Martin made light work of the saves. United had the first real chance on 29 minutes when a great ball from Cal Irvine found Iwen Jones whose first time volley went just wide, Ryan Baxter was next to try and break the deadlock but his effort went high and wide. Chances were however at a premium and any efforts were from long range and troubled neither keeper. On 43 minutes though that all changed, Codicote as they had done all night tried to play out from the back - but Ryan Baxter had been all over them all night, and this time it paid off when he forced the defender into putting a weak back pass in and then closed the keeper down - the keeper tried to clear but he struck the ball against Baxter and the ball went in. Great time to score and the Bulls went in at the break a goal to the good.

Codicote as expected came out all guns blazing and a number of balls in the box found Pidgeon but his headed efforts were either off target or wide. Codicote then had their best chance of the evening when their forward raced clear but a great recovering tackle from Lewis king saw a goal scoring chance denied.

Archie Palmer replaced the injured Nathan Arnold with Cal Irvine dropping in at right back - a role he fulfilled like a duck to water. Archie had a great chance to double the Bulls lead but his header hit the post. The Bulls saw the last knockings of the game comfortably and picked up those three vital points. On to next Wednesday when they play Warboys Town at St Ives in the Hunts Intermediate Cup Final. A well deserved distraction from the promotion push. MoM was Brad Brown - a mature performance and a passing game to match.
