I don't think the ball was over the line - but only because the defender handled it! Still, would you have fancied Sam to score the resulting penalty?

The tactics mystified me. I guess Gavin was banking on Sam being able to hold the ball up a little more than Chuks, but even with all those midfielders on the pitch we couldn't get hold of the second balls.

I like the look of Dillon. Despite only being 18 he looks physically strong enough to handle himself and hustled and harried their defence when he came on.

Given it was a home game, I wish we could've looked to attack the opposition a bit more. I get that Gavin would've taken the plaudits had we secured an ugly 1-0, but we didn't, so he can't.

I appreciate that we can't have too much faith in the predicted league table, however it did suggest that we'd get a point in this game, and that would be our final point of the season. It looks a tough old road ahead. Given our appalling goal difference, we now need to pick up at least a couple of wins in the last 5 games.

Predicted table is merely guesswork.

I'd be interested in seeing the algorithm for the Predictive table being a software engineer, but whatever it is, luckily that's not how football works. We could just let the computer work out all out and take up gardening every Saturday.

It can only work on the results of previous games and takes no account of the human factor of motivation, morale or literally 1001+ other factors that influence football matches.

If I owned that site I'd ditch that page.

The vids in this thread show that the ball didn't cross the line (IMO) but it looks like it was swatted away by the defender with his hand:

Not easy to spot by the ref, to be honest, it was a deserved penalty.

No one has yet to mention the fantastic save right at the end to secure the point we had at the time.

Agree it was a very good shot to save after having so little to do for most of the game apart from the awkward bouncing ball he tipped over in the 1st 45.

Thought Ollie had a very quiet game and perhaps Charlie could have brought some energy for the last 15.

Our passing was so frustrating and we rarely got the ball in the right channels for our attackers to chase.

Thought Billy played welll 2nd half and his delivery probably deserved a better end product.   Still think  St Albans have a very tough next two games with teams fighting for promotion.

Good thing this league isnt Football Manager.

Joe or Rhys would ve been proud of that save!!!

Two penalties we shouldve had with a probable red card for them.

Really do hope that doesnt impact us later in the season.

The officials should be at this level on merit but have seen few decent ones this season.

I hope ref and asst both got less than 50 marks for getting game changing decisions wrong.

2nd penalty the referee is 5 yds away !!!

Agreed.

Ive been saying this for weeks. It’s ok moaning about strikers lack of goals but the quality of pass and the timing of when to pass has and is atrocious and it can only come down to poor coaching and poor expectation of what you want from your players.

We’re a team full of random actions and very rarely do we see a goal constructed from a passage of play or a pattern of play.

It felt a bit like the Tonbridge game, in that we probably should have won a fairly low quality encounter, but didn't - at least we picked up a point, which shouldn't be underestimated. Agree that we really didn't string more than 3 passes together, especially in the first half, and I don't think the pitch is helping - as much as I'm enjoying the weather, we could do with a few days heavy rain. That said, it probably suits how we're playing (i.e. scrapping, and fairly direct) to have a pitch like that, so the better passing sides can't get it down, and play around us. Noticeable that the players didn't really inspire the crowd, and things were very subdued - I know it's easy to say, harder to do, but we need to go back to being the 12th man at home, and help to make some noise and get some energy into the players. Hoping there will be a decent (and vocal) support at Hemel next week.

I was scratching my head around the formation in the same way as others, seems we were just hitting Youngs as a target, and then trying to have Peake play off him for knock downs and flick ons. Sam did well, winning his fair share of first balls, but surely you want him being the player feeding off of a forward (possibly with Peake as well). The new fella up front looked like he could be quite useful when he came on, and seemed up to the physical challenge at least.

Can't really comment too much on the penalty decision as I didn't have a great view, but the people I was with suggested it was handball, and could easily have been given. Still, we move on, plenty more twists and turns still to come, I'm sure, and given that we were in my eyes dead and buried after the Weymouth game, we're still in a position where it's just about in our own hands, so I'll take that.

And this photo proves what exactly?

I've got a clearer angle for you:

1st picture, the referee isn't even in shot....should be closer than outside the area, even on his diagonal to get a good view with the play between him and his AR.

image.thumb.png.a1e67e15a5a31aa378b717173002946b.pngimage.png.9c6b6e2c3c876106ae73d71c9b8e9902.png

In a close up of the 2nd picture.....above you can see the player playing volleyball on the line.

Would have given Dillon a goal on his debut which he was unfortunate not to get.

One other thing I'd add, the AR is nowhere to be seen(perhaps masked by the goalkeeper and players about 3/4 yards out.

Either way, neither official has a good enough view and yes it's always difficult when the play is that fast however the referee should be fitter(or closer to play) to be more credible.    He is too far away and the AR isn't even in line with the 2nd last defender.

I said to my friend as the teams came out the referee and Chippenham gk were virtually wearing the same colour strip/top.   You learn not to do this when you qualify as a referee.

Not good enough at this level!!
