That was definitely there for the taking. Interesting tactics playing without a recognised striker, a front line of skilful ball players and then playing long balls over the top of them. 

I think Bates was looking too hard for that penalty, falling in the leg of the defender. Couldn't see the goal line shout, hopefully the highlights will clear things up. 

Anyway, perhaps Slough and Hampton&R are getting dragged into the melee. We still need the points though.

I don't think the ball was over the line - but only because the defender handled it! Still, would you have fancied Sam to score the resulting penalty?

The tactics mystified me. I guess Gavin was banking on Sam being able to hold the ball up a little more than Chuks, but even with all those midfielders on the pitch we couldn't get hold of the second balls. 

I like the look of Dillon. Despite only being 18 he looks physically strong enough to handle himself and hustled and harried their defence when he came on. 

Given it was a home game, I wish we could've looked to attack the opposition a bit more. I get that Gavin would've taken the plaudits had we secured an ugly 1-0, but we didn't, so he can't.

I appreciate that we can't have too much faith in the predicted league table, however it did suggest that we'd get a point in this game, and that would be our final point of the season. It looks a tough old road ahead. Given our appalling goal difference, we now need to pick up at least a couple of wins in the last 5 games.

We were the better team and worked hard, if mostly twenty feet in the air!

It wasn't the No.7 who handled it. It was the long-haired little fella on his left who scooped it off the line just before this pic was taken. The ref's view must've been obscured, and I'm not sure you can blame the lino for not seeing it from the far side.

Gavin has just explained all in his post-match interview: he felt there were more goals in the side if he didn't field a centre forward!

(And unfortunately Gavin, from my viewpoint, I felt that Bates did probably dive for the non-penalty - but I'm happy to be corrected if the footage shows otherwise.)

I thought it was over the line but the linesman would have to be on or near the dead ball line to be sure. No hiding the fact this was a disappointing result but I fancy we can do better over the next three games than St Albans.
